Must have good sense of smell

But as well as being paranoid about anyone seeing my plastic bags, now I'll be even more paranoid than usual if police are sitting behind me in case they think they smell something :-s

Taxi driver caught with cannabis after police officers smelt it from car

A TAXI driver was caught with cannabis in a car boot after police officers smelled it from their vehicle.

Kenneth Gray was snared with some of the £27,000 haul in Cambuslang, South Lanarkshire, on July 20, 2020.

The 42-year-old came clean immediately telling officers: “It’s all in the boot.”

Gray’s home was raided and 66 cannabis plants were found as well as six jars of herbal material.

Gray pled guilty on Friday at Glasgow Sheriff Court to being concerned in the supply of cannabis.

The court heard officers were in a police car positioned behind a Volkswagen that Gray was driving.

Prosecutor Alasdair Knox said: “Police detected a strong smell of cannabis emanating from the vehicle.

“Gray went turned into Kirkhill Terrace and officers activated their blue lights and brought the vehicle to a stop.

“Police continued to smell a strong scent of cannabis and told the driver the reason for the stop.

“Gray freely stated: ‘It’s all in the boot’.”

Officers recovered two clear bags of cannabis from the boot and £4,400 from under the driver’s seat.

Four mobile phones and a notepad with names and numbers were found in the car’s console area.

Gray said: “My brother used to use it medicinally and I’m just helping other people, it’s about a kilo a bag.”

Gray’s property was raided by officers and £205 was found in a black handbag.

A further 66 plants and six jars containing cannabis buds were also recovered.

Gray told officers in a police interview: “The money belongs to a friend, I owe him £5,000.”

Mr Knox said: “The cannabis recovered can be divided into street deals of £27,100.”

Harvie Diamond, defending, will make his plea in mitigation at next month’s sentencing.

Sheriff Martin Jones QC granted Gray, also of Cambuslang, bail meantime.

Anyway, please note that Cambuslang isn't technically Glasgow, but close enough for the average reader on here, who are probably unaware of the precise location of Cambuslang.

Also, nothing at all about the 'taxi' driver angle, obviously, and the piece reads like the VW he was driving wasn't a plated vehicle.

Some may believe the police smelt the drugs from their vehicle, some may find that difficult to believe.

Some may believe the police just used that as an excuse to cover any sources who told them what to stop and why, some may think otherwise.
