Hello guys.
I'm new in the bussines ( PHD ); I'll be renting the car from my firm.
I need to know if £200/250 pw is a good price to pay, for car & radio. or if they are asking too much.
Ps.. Im based in London.
Thanks

If you are earning good money, then that rent seems fine for starters.

But I would consider getting your own motor in time. :wink:

We have spanky new octavias on our system and he charges £270 all in, now thats expensive for this area. For a "normal" (w,x,y, reg) PHV you can rent one for £170 all inc.

Radio rent is usually 80 - £100 depending on where you are in the UK
Car usually costs anything from £100 - £135

Id rent for a month or so and see how you get on and then buy a car its alot cheaper and its your car.. you could even rent it out to other drivers if you wanted to and make more money ..

All the best mate

£200 doesn't seem too bad, £250 seems a bit steep, but of course it depends on the car and other factors.

Generally speaking you're better off running your own vehicle, since after all the office will be making a profit out of you, which is coming out of your pocket.

However, the firm may be able to save money in a way that's not available to you, such as a fleet insurance policy, so in that way some of the savings may be passed on to you.

Best way to proceed initially is to rent a car until you get a feel for the situation - you're unlikely to be committed for any huge length of time or whatever.

Then you can find out the cost of buying your own car, insuring it and the like to work out whether you would be better off going down that route.

Unless you work for GPH

They have just upped the rent on cars from £130 to £150 :shock:

Some hike in one go if you ask me

Plus any owners who rent cars to drivers MUST charge the same rate or they are off the system.

New rules this week.....

I think you will find the reason why firms charge such a high rate is becuase there are utter fools prepared to pay it. [-(

On the other hand, I suppose if they can't run their own car then they have little choice.

But it's further evidence (not that anyone who has anything in the way of knowledge of the trade) of the inflated rentals caused by restricted numbers, despite the flaccid attempts by those who purport to represent drivers to claim otherwise :?

having your own car is profitable but because you have to look after you car its hassle.

tyres = 120
insurance = 1200
servicing and parts = 200
car = 5000
MOT = 30
road tax =140

and all these payments are upfront, so for those who like to drive a diesel and to rag the car they like using the company car.
