Bit of a to do on a local firms FB page. Customers complaining it's taking over two hours for them to turn up - firm blaming a lack of drivers due to them leaving during the pandemic and not coming back, and not being able to get new ones.

Have they reduced their weekly subs, NO (highest in town)
Have they put their fares up, NO (cheapest in town, below council rate.)

Can't understand why drivers are'nt queuing round the block  #-o

!
Are they turning up over 2 hours late from the booked time or is there a waiting time of over 2 hours to get a booking? They are not the same thing. If they are turning up over 2 hours late then they are taking the pi55 when taking the bookings.if there is a 2 hour wait to actually get a time then it is a different story. We are usually over 90% booked for a Saturday night by the middle of the afternoon. For bookings after 23.00 on a Saturday we are usually fully booked by Thursday.

So no good reason to flood back to a trade where you could literally catch your death.

Firm I'm on still has dues at 50% despite work being nearly as good, or maybe better, than it was pre covid.

I'm still only charging drivers £30 a week  but have cut the costs down to a shoestring by getting rid of booking and dispatch and some of the advertising so we are not haemorrhaging so much money now

The thing is we have some very good days at the moment and quite a few bad ones but there are fewer cars at the rank now as the firms move over to Rutland plated cars to save money

So some existing hackney carriage owners/drivers are giving up their SK licenses to go to work PH in Rutland, and by doing so are saving about £8 a year on their drivers license and about £90 on their vehicle license?

Defo something in the water up there. :-k

We are looking at doing something similar because of the extra restrictive conditions added by our licensing committee a few weeks back although the saving will be considerably more and less red tape. I have already spoken to Rutland licensing and provided that we have a base in Rutland and use Rutland plated cars and drivers and actually do work in Rutland (we already do have work in Rutland) Then they will be happy. There was an issue where they wanted a fixed telephone line but we explained that these were being phased out and we already use VOIP and they have now accepted this.

Basically there is no compliance test in Rutland only an annual MOT

Hackneys do NOT have to have a meter fitted

There is NO age restriction

And yes one company operates a mixed fleet of SKDC and Rutland licensed vehicles from an office in Rutland the other "bought" a little outfit based in Uppingham and the driver now works for them with his address their registered Rutland office but the whole thing run from an office in Stamford

Oh and their plate fees are a LOT cheaper than SKDC but for Hackney you have to sign a statement that you intend to trade mostly in Rutland
