Always a bit suspicious when claims like this are only investigated by police 'after being shared on social media', for several days by the looks of it.

And one other detail in this report looks a bit odd in terms of the usual circumstances surrounding sexual assaults.

Woman 'sexually assaulted by private hire taxi driver' after night out in Liverpool

Police are investigating reports that a male driver sexually assaulted the woman

A young woman was reportedly sexually assaulted by the driver of a private hire taxi as she sat in the front seat of the car on her way home.

The woman in her 20s was alone when she got into the vehicle after leaving a nightclub on Victoria Street in the city centre.

She was travelling to Smithdown Road in the early hours of Sunday, according to a social media post by someone claiming to post on her behalf.

The post was widely shared on social media this week, and now police have confirmed they are looking in to the report.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police told the ECHO : "We are investigating following reports a woman was sexually assaulted in a private hire taxi in Liverpool.

"The woman, who is in her 20s, was picked up by the taxi in Liverpool city centre at around 7am on Sunday 12 September.

"The woman reported that the male taxi driver sexually assaulted her as she was sat in the front seat of the car.

"An investigation is underway and enquiries are currently being carried out. The woman will be supported by specially trained officers."

Yes, I was guessing she may have been at some all night club, or house party, or whatever.

But presumably she was picked up in broad daylight with a bit more traffic around than at 3am (say), so to that degree it's a bit different from the norm for this kind of thing.

And presumably not as incapably intoxicated by that time of the morning as many of the victims we read about.

Of course, none of that's to say that nothing happened, but it just looks untypical for this kind of thing :?

depends on how much she drank or if she had her drinks spiked ...

... drinks spiking getting to be very common round here

Would there be much traffic at 07.00 am SUNDAY morning ?

Let's hope the police investigate, and should the allegations be credible then let's hope they catch the low life.

However if the allegations don't stand up then I hope the police make an official statement confirming that.

Indeed, you're right about the fact that it was a Sunday morning, which I'd kind of missed and was concentrating simply on the time of day and the fact it would be daylight.

As for any intoxication, again I think the tendency is that if they're still around at that time then they tend to have sobered up a bit, or have never been that bad in the first place.

Of course, intoxication may not have been a factor at all, or she may have been intoxicated at an untypical time, but it all just suggests that if anything did happen then it's not a typical case :?
