Well I hope it works, and improves the standard of driver in that manor.

Have one for the cars, and they might have cracked it.

The idea of having these courses are quite good, unfortunatley the reality and the delivery is often very poor, they always seem to be run by people who have no experience of the trade or indeed of working with the public.
I found some of mine intresting, some of it nonsense and some of it dangerous.
In short these things should be run and organised by the Taxi trade for the taxi trade.

Quite right Stuart, but I don't think the trade will do them, because in classic taxi markets (ie the street markets) you get the work whatever the quality of your service, so from the trade's point of view there's no point - and taxi offices rarely improve on this by much, because they know that if they specify too high a standard then drivers will just go back to working the streets.

Another thing about such courses is that they're usually optional - and, as has been said before, the guys who need it won't bother, and the guys who do will be wasting their time with much of it.

So these courses should be compulsory and organised by the authorities, but not on the hotch potch basis that usually charachterises such courses at the moment.

I think such courses as these are good and should be the norm.

Even if they don't apply to the existing know alls, at least in time things should improve as the know alls fade away.

Alex

P.S SM I don't mean you. :D

We wanted to bring that in a few months ago but, a firm in Mansfield Didn't want it brought in because it would slow down the flow of drivers. In the summer we had a big influx of Asian drivers who didn't know their way around, they were charging all sorts of silly fares, so we asked the Council to bring a knowleage test in, we were met with no way, we don't need it.

Very impressive your council Nidge.

Fancy expecting taxi drivers to know where they are going.
