Burglar caught after argument in taxi used as getaway vehicle

A KNIFE-WIELDING burglar was caught after an argument with a taxi driver about the cost of a fare, a court has heard.

Jamie McCullough, 34, of Thornlea in Altrincham, was sentenced to four years in prison for multiple offences yesterday.

He earlier pleaded guilty to burglary, damage to property, making off without payment, possession of a bladed article and a public order offence.

Back in June, McCullough burgled a house on Moss Lane in Hale, before fleeing with an iPod, credit cards and laptops, as well as a stolen knife.

He then ordered a taxi to Barton Dock Road in Stretford, but became involved in an argument with the driver over the cost of the fare.

McCullough became aggressive, pulling out the stolen knife, before kicking and smashing the rear window of the taxi in an attempt to escape it.

However, the driver was able to get the attention of passing police.

McCullough fled on foot, but was soon chased down and arrested.

Police recovered the stolen knife alongside a black bag containing two laptops.

During a later interview, McCullough confessed to all the offences.
