Not clear if armed police were actually required here, or if they just happened to be armed.

But The Lincolnite thinks that detail is worth reporting, although it was just an 'eyewitness' report :?

Suspect the latter.

sounds like a bit of an over reaction from the boys in blue BUT take it from me Lincolnshire police HATE taxi drivers big time ! so any opportunity to use excessive force against one is plausible

Take it from me, complete and utter tosh from edders 23. We in Lincoln have an excellent relationship with Lincolnshire police. No one seems to know anything about this case, nor should they. The L/O will not confirm or deny if any action has been taken, nor should he.

In my experience, the only people who have issues with the police are people that have issues abiding by the law. :)

The police change areas so often I'm surprised they are in place long enough to gain a hatred of any local business.

The police that dealt with this taxi driver just happened to be armed, rather than the driver being dealt with by armed police.

Well sounds like they're taking their time in investigating the 'leg touching', but this confirms that the PHD was suspended, and sounds like that happened a few days after the incident.

Police continue to probe Lincoln taxi driver in sexual assault arrest

https://thelincolnite.co.uk/2022/01/pol ... lt-arrest/

He’s been released under investigation

A 36-year-old taxi driver in Lincoln has been released under investigation as police enquiries continue into an alleged sexual assault from nearly three months ago.

The driver allegedly touched the legs of a female passenger without her consent and an eyewitness previously said they saw a man being “arrested by firearms officers” on Yarborough Road at around 12.10pm on Sunday, October 10, 2021.

The incident was reported to Lincolnshire Police at 8.45am that day and it is believed to have happened in the early hours of that morning.

The 36-year-old man arrested in connection with the incident was released on bail in October last year as the investigation continued.

The Lincolnite has been continually asking Lincolnshire Police for updates on the investigation since it was first reported. On January 6, 2022 police said: “He’s been released under investigation while enquiries are still ongoing.”

A City of Lincoln Council officer previously said: “We were made aware that a private hire driver was arrested in the city at the weekend and have, following conversations with Lincolnshire Police, taken the decision to suspend the driver’s licence with immediate effect pending the outcome of the police investigation.”

This comes after it was reported in The Lincolnite that there had been a near 30% rise in sexual assault reports in Lincolnshire last year. By October 4, 2021 there had already been 794 reports of sexual assault or harassment in the county.

You have to wonder why it's taking so long to investigate. :-k

The witnesses to the alleged incident must have already made a statement, and the driver would have given his account.

So what's the delay? This isn't a case of waiting for DNA or forensic evidence to be processed.

Of course there is a chance the driver has done nothing wrong, yet he is currently unable to earn a living.

Taxi driver appeals licence suspension as police continue sexual assault probe

https://thelincolnite.co.uk/2022/03/tax ... ult-probe/

A taxi driver arrested in connection with an alleged sexual assault in Lincoln has lodged an appeal against the decision to suspend his licence.

The man, who was 36 at the time, allegedly touched the legs of a female passenger without her consent. Police said it was reported to them at 8.45am on Sunday, October 10, 2021 and is alleged to have happened in the early hours of that morning.

The man was arrested in connection with the incident before being released on bail. He was later released under investigation and over five months on police enquiries are still ongoing.

A spokesperson for Lincolnshire Police said: “The investigation is still ongoing and the man remains released under investigation, pending our inquiries.”

A spokesperson for City of Lincoln Council said: “We can confirm that we have suspended the licence of a private hire driver following an allegation of inappropriate conduct, however this decision has been appealed and we are awaiting a court date currently set for June 2022.

“As this is a live police investigation we cannot comment further at this time.”

The Lincolnite revealed last year there had been a near 30% rise in sexual assault reports in Lincolnshire in 2021. By October 4, 2021, there had already been 794 reports of sexual assault or harassment in the county.
