Taxi drivers are the unsung heroes of life in a big city.

From making sure you get to the airport in time for an early flight, to getting you home safe after a night out, we rely on them a great deal in many aspects of life.

And a new taxi service that’s recently launched in Edinburgh can offer all of this and much more.

Bolt is one of the leading European mobility platforms, with one clear focus - to make travelling around in cities more sustainable and affordable.

It currently operates in 16 cities in the UK, having launched in the capital recently - the first place in Scotland to introduce the service.

Not just limited to taxis, across Europe and Africa Bolt also offers food and grocery delivery services, car-sharing, and e-scooter and e-bike fleets - all of which contribute to a quicker and more sustainable way of getting around in urban areas.

So, if you’re currently a taxi driver and fancy working somewhere that genuinely puts your needs and wants first, and can offer a huge range of fantastic benefits, Bolt wants to hear from you.

There’s even an exclusive joining offer for private hire drivers until the 30th November, so we’ve found out everything you need to know about Bolt, and what they can do for you.

Urban travel, simplified

Getting from one place to the next in a city environment can sometimes be a struggle. Slow public transport and long walking journeys often mean delays in arriving where we need to be.

But Bolt, formerly known as Taxify, wants to change this and make travelling around easy, efficient and affordable.

The company was founded in Estonia in 2013, and since then, has built itself up to operate in hundreds of cities around the world.

It operates via a handy app, which can be downloaded for free on the App Store or Google Play store.

And it couldn't be easier to use - drivers simply log on and are notified to riders in the surrounding area. Their destination will be automatically inputted into the app, making the process as seamless as possible. Not only is it fast and convenient, but Bolt is on a mission to make urban travel more affordable, safe and sustainable, through a fight against private cars. Private cars cause 90% of issues in cities - accidents, traffic, need for parking spaces - and Bolt provides a better use case to every purpose a car serves.

Different from the rest

With so many taxi companies and apps flooding the market recently, you might be left wondering what Bolt can offer which its competitors lack.

The ride-hailing app comes with many benefits, not just for the passengers but for drivers too.

Safety is Bolt's priority, which is why the app has a built-in SOS button that enables drivers and passengers to be connected directly to emergency services should a situation arise where it becomes necessary.

In terms of rates, Bolt takes almost half the commission of the competition in Edinburgh, at 15% compared to competitors who are closer to 25%, meaning for the same journeys drivers can take home a higher proportion of earnings.

Perks for the drivers

If you've been looking to branch out from driving taxis at private hire companies there's never been a better time to join the Bolt family.

It's currently running an offer for private hire drivers that sign up before November 30 - 0% commission for your first month, 7.5% for the month following.

There are no monthly fees and you can work entirely on your own schedule, whether that's full-time or just a couple of hours here and there when you're free.

Apply today

If you're passionate about driving and want to help make Edinburgh a better place to travel in, working for Bolt could be the new path you've been searching for.

Visit the website to find out more about Bolt, and how you can sign up to be a driver.

Apart from that single highlighted word, half close your eyes on the Edinburgh Live website and you wouldn't know if it was on Bolt's own website, or a Bolt email sent to drivers, or a recruitment flyer, or similar.

But that one word "we've" on makes it sound like it's the Edinburgh Live website who've composed all this as some kind of press report rather than Bolt's own work. Aye, right

But with Uber recently launching a Local Cab option alongside its own service, competition certainly hotting up in Edinburgh :-o

I am always suspicious of any taxi company that can offer overly generous benefits to the drivers and customers

To be fair to Bolt and Uber, at least they don't do the £1k 'earnings' per week stuff :-|

They're planting trees again

More advertorial on the same website, but this one's aimed more at potential customers rather than drivers.

Ride app 'Bolt' comes to Edinburgh - and you can order taxis, car shares and food

https://www.edinburghlive.co.uk/news/ed ... h-22321954

The new app has proved popular down south, with Edinburgh being the company's first trial over the border into Scotland, offering taxi rides and more.

A new ride-hailing app has given locals a new way to get around after they launched in Edinburgh.

Bolt have announced the capital will be their first ever trial in Scotland, after already setting up locations in and around the UK.

Competing with the likes of Uber and Edinburgh Taxis, the app offers taxi rides, shared cars and scooters and even food and grocery delivery services.

Founded in 2013, the site has proved popular down south, with over 75 million customers using their services in Europe and throughout the rest of the world.

Describing themselves as “safe and convenient”, Bolt also claims they will have the lowest commission in the city, keeping customer prices down.

According to Insider, to mark their Scottish debut, Bolt is making a £20,300 donation to the TreeTime Edinburgh initiative, run by Edinburgh & Lothians Greenspace Trust.

This will help the charity to replace larger strategically positioned trees, as well as contributing to extending woodland areas and parks around the city with young saplings.

Sam Raciti, Bolt’s UK general manager, said: “Launching into Edinburgh and Scotland is a big step for Bolt.

“We take our responsibility in supporting the communities we operate within seriously and it was only right that we helped support the sustainability goals of the UK's second greenest city through our partnership with TreeTime Edinburgh.”

Charlie Cumming, chief executive at Edinburgh & Lothians Greenspace Trust, added: “We’ve calculated that the city needs to be planting roughly 6,500 trees every year to compensate for the trees we lose due to disease and Bolt’s donation and commitment will help us significantly.”
