and I'm on the rental treadmill for life

I can understand St Andrews being pricey but further inland in fife wouldn't be as bad and Dundee wouldn't be too expensive I would have thought

Well your life certainly sounds a good bit more eventful than mine, but mine's is more of a slow burn in terms of 'issues', I'm guessing...

Anyway, thanks to the others for advice on the property rental market in St Andrews

Indeed, St Andrews is a bit of a hotspot for purchase and rental prices, fuelled by Bullingdon Club types who want to be able to walk from home to the pubs and lecture theatres :-o

But out-of-town, prices drop rapidly, although it depends on the direction, and it's a bit cheaper down towards the East Neuk (where I am) than in the direction of Dundee etc, where all the jobs, shopping, entertainment and the likes of the Army camp and rail station at Leuchars are situated.

Quite a few St Andrews students actually living in Dundee these days, though #-o

Partly due to the shortage of accommodation in St Andrews, but Dundee a bit cheaper if you need to live close to shops and transport links etc, and there's a very frequent bus service between Dundee and St Andrews.

Personally, though, Dundee felt like a 25-year prison for me, so I won't be hurrying back anytime soon
