basically the airports were too quick to get rid of staff and slash their wage bill and they can't re-hire as easily

In hindsight yes, but at the time the airport operators didn't think things would get back to normal for years, and over two years on they still aren't back to anywhere near 100%.

Gatwick has only just re-opened the South Terminal.

so you didn't go to Heathrow during lockdown to find 10000 people rammed into T2 waiting to meet passengers who were taking 4 hours to clear security and passenger locator etc.

I went to Heathrow a number of times during lockdown and never saw a queue of anything.

mind you when I did it was just before the start of Ramadan and there were an average of 10 meeters and greeters per passenger  even though the signs said a limit of one

trotsky where were you the other night

thatcher statue egged already

A bronze statue of Margaret Thatcher has been lowered into place in her home town of Grantham.
The £300,000 statue was offered to South Kesteven District Council after plans to erect it in Parliament Square in London were rejected.
It has been placed on a 10ft (3m) high plinth under CCTV surveillance to minimise the risk of vandalism.
However, within two hours of it being put in place someone had thrown eggs at it.
Only one of the eggs hit the lower part of the statue, as the person throwing them was behind a temporary fence surrounding the memorial.

to be fair I think Trotsky would have thrown red paint

But only because every spare Anti Tank weapon is in, or en-route to Ukraine.

How many staunch Labour voters, coal miners, steel and railway union men bought council houses with the Thatcher "Right to Buy"?

(and gas/bt shares)

Madness, where does it end FFS?

Think the airlines have to refuse 10s of 1000s of these kinds of requests every year.
