After yesterday's CCTV appeal from the 'rank' in Nottingham, this one from York does seem like a proper hackney rank rather than a private hire despatch office.

But this one shows the value of appeals of this kind (and perhaps why they shouldn't use misleading comments about 'ranks', or whatever), and it looks like the individual in the photo was identififed within hours =D>

I think North Yorkshire Police have pulled the photo from their website, perhaps for legal reasons. But it's still on at least one news site, so I don't suppose much harm in posting it on here.

But, I mean, if anyone knows the guy and sees the photos, certainly not difficult to ID him from images of this quality :-o

An appeal has been launched to find a man who could help the police after a man was rushed to hospital following a “ serious assault” at a taxi rank in York.

North Yorkshire Police say the incident happened just before 3am on Sunday (October 23) at the taxi rank on St Saviour Gate.

The man, who was assaulted, is currently in hospital in a “serious condition", says the force.

The force is now appealing to find a man in the CCTV to come forward as he may be able to assist them.

A spokesperson for the force said: “We're investigating a serious assault which happened on a taxi rank on St Saviour Gate.

“The incident happened at just before 3am, yesterday (Sunday 23 October 2022).

“A 42-year-old man is currently in a serious condition in hospital following the incident.

“We're now appealing for the man in the CCTV images to come forward as we believe he will have information which could assist our investigation.

“Anyone who can help us identify the man in the images or who witnessed the incident is asked to call us on 101. Please select option 1 to speak to the Force Control Room.

It also highlights the fact that these appeals should be made within hours/days of the incident, not months after.

The fella also looks like a doorman, so no surprised he was identified quickly.

Presumably it's the individual above who's referred to below as a "30-year-old man [who] has been arrested in connection with the incident. He was interviewed and released on conditional bail."

But police have now issued an image of a second individual they want to identify in relation to the incident. No mention of the taxi rank in this appeal, though. I wonder if the incident was related to the rank, or just happened to take place there?

Anyway, victim still in 'critical condition' in hospital :-|

Doubt this individual is a doorman, though :?

An altercation occurred on St Saviour Gate at just before 3am. Following the incident, a man in his 40s remains in hospital in a critical condition.

A 30-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident. He was interviewed and released on conditional bail.

Enquiries are continuing and officers would now like to identify a second man as they believe he will have information which could assist the investigation.

Anyone who can help identify the man in the images or who witnessed the incident is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 1 to speak to the Force Control Room and quote reference 12220188437.
