How can it be your fault. She opened the door without due care & attention. I always check my mirrors before opening my door/s. So what is the stopping distance for 30 mph?? Thinking Distance = 30 ft. (9 m), Braking Distance = 45 ft. (14 m) & Overall Stopping Distance = 75 ft. (23 m). So my question is how much warning did she give you that she was opening her door?? So as someone said before if I was cycling passed & she opened her door she would be at fault. The best thing to do is take photos & measure the road (from parked car to white line). Then get the measurement of your motor and subtract it from the measurement of the road. Insurance companies love photos. I should have asked what company do you work for in Aberdeen?? I was going to go with Rainbow, but they are wanting me to work the afternoon shift  I was told the Com Cabs have a open shift policy, is this true :?: I think I remember seeing your motor for sale on the noticeboard in Com Cabs. Well my test is booked for the 13th Oct & my interview on the 3rd, so hopefully I will be up and running very very soon.

Same happened to me a few years ago when I was driving buses.

Young guy opened his door - I had no time to react (plus there was a passenger walking down the aisle) - and took the door clean off!

A few minutes after it happened the Traffic cops stopped - asked for my version and a few of my passengers who were witnesses - and proceded to give the "door less lad" a bollocking!

So, in my experiance - you will not be at fault - according to the Traffic cop who chatted to me the driver of the car should have displayed proper due care and attention whilst exiting the vehicle!

Good luck mate

same thing happend to my mate when he was driving a bus and the police
charged the guy as well.

mind you if the guy had just shut up he would have just got a bollocking but had to tell the boys in blue the law and how to do there jobs and then the clincher was one of the witnesses on my pals bus was a off duty police man you dont stand much of a chance
