Wouldn't be surprised if some member of staff has retired or moved on, which might explain why the pass rates have dropped from the likes of 99/100% a few years ago

And where else would you get the annual test pass rates reported in the press as a matter of routine, and where else would a 90 per cent pass rate be portrayed in this way [-(

'Disappointing' number of taxis and hire cars failing inspection

THE number of taxis and private hire cars in West Fife that failed their annual inspection was "disappointing".

Of the 97 that were tested by Fife Council in August, September and October, 10 did not pass but were successful on re-test.

The failure rate of 10 per cent was double that of November 2021 and higher than the three per cent in May of this year.

A report to the council's regulation and licensing committee by Billy Ferguson, the service manager in fleet operations, said: "It is disappointing that the first-time pass rate has decreased at this round of tests.

"However, it should still be noted that 87 vehicles did pass the test first time.

"Operators should be reminded that their cars should be maintained to a very high standard, at all times."

He recommended that random inspection tests, six months after the annual test dates, should be considered "to ensure public safety".

Reasons for failed tests included cars with worn brake pads, engine oil leaks, rusty brake pipe, gearbox oil leak, dirty passenger seats, damage to the tyre sidewall, damage to the bumper and door, and worn brake pedal rubber.
