'I'm not paying that!': Paul Chuckle brands London black cabs a 'rip off merchant' as he refuses to pay £30 for a taxi from Heathrow Airport and catches a bus instead

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/a ... -taxi.html

Paul Chuckle was left 'disgusted' on Wednesday evening as he attempted to get a taxi from Heathrow Airport to his nearby hotel, after enjoying a holiday to Greece.

The comedian, 75, was hoping to grab a lift from the airport for his trip, which he claimed was 2.8 miles, with taxis allegedly telling him it would cost £30 for the journey.

But taking to Twitter to share his experience, he revealed to decided to wait an hour for the bus instead while branding the company a 'rip off merchant'.

The entertainer, real moniker Paul Elliot, explained that he and wife Sue didn't want to wait for the bus so were hoping to grab a taxi.

But after being quoted £30 for their short trip, they decided to wait and get on the Heathrow Hotel Hoppa bus, which is £6 for a single ticket.

Explaining the ordeal with his 166.1K followers, his first tweet read: 'Just arrived at Heathrow T5 and been told a taxi to Hilton Hotel (2.8 miles) would cost me £30. Disgusted.'

He reiterated the point with another tweet, penning: '#londonblackcabs £30 for 2/8 miles from Hilton Airport?'

Many fans replied to Paul recommending the bus rather than a cab, as he responded confirming he waited an hour for it rather than paying 'out of principle'.

'It was an hours wait but now waiting for it, not paying that! I used to taxi back in the day and was never a rip off merchant would rather freeze than pay that!'

He added in another: 'We went for the hopper first but it was an hours wait, went for the taxi, wasn't going to pay that out of principle, so waited for the hopper'.

Paul had flown in to London after enjoying a holiday to Greece. And while he wasn't pleased with the transport on land, the flight was an enjoyable experience.

Sharing that he had an 'excellent flight', the Chuckle Brothers entertainer thanked British Airways in a tweet, writing: What an experience! Coming in to land at Heathrow, picture taken, suddenly the plane took off again!

'Sue was convinced we were going to die, sweating, the lot! Another plane was in our way on the runway! Thanks guys for getting us back safely @British_Airways .. great crew'.

I think they have a facility at Heathrow that allows cabs that have done a local job, i.e. on site hotel, to return back to the front of the rank.
