Boy, 17, charged over knifepoint robbery of taxi driver

A SEVENTEEN-YEAR-OLD boy has been charged in connection with a knifepoint robbery in which a taxi driver's vehicle was reportedly stolen.

A teenage suspect was arrested following the robbery in Thatto Heath in the early hours of yesterday morning, Wednesday, April 19.

At about 1.30am officers received a report that a car was stolen from a taxi driver at knifepoint on Hempstead Close.

Four men reportedly approached the vehicle of the taxi driver when he stopped to pick up a fare on Hempstead Close.

It was reported three of the men got into the car, while another opened the driver’s side door and threatened him with a knife.

As the driver got out of the car the offenders made off in the vehicle, which was a silver Skoda Octavia.

A 17-year-old-boy from St Helens was arrested on suspicion of robbery and taken into custody.

In a statement, Merseyside Police have confirmed that a suspect has since been charged with robbery.

It said: "We can confirm that a teenage boy has been charged with robbery following an incident in Thatto Heath on Wednesday, April 19.

"At around 1.30am, officers received a report that a car had been taken from a taxi driver on Hempstead Close.

"A 17-year-old boy, who we can’t name for legal reasons, has been charged with robbery.

"He has been remanded in custody to appear at Merseyside Youth Remand Court this morning (Thursday, April 20."
