This kind of thing not unusual, obviously, but some interesting legal and medical details, and other angles.

But late Saturday/early Sunday kind of rings alarm bells. As does the fact that the victim doesn't remember anything :?

Mum's plea for answers after son left in intensive care following collision with taxi on night out

https://www.gazettelive.co.uk/news/tees ... n-28323269

An investigation into the incident is ongoing any any witnesses or anyone with CCTV or video is asked to come forward

A mum is trying to find answers after her son was left in intensive care after he was hit by a car while on a night out in Middlesbrough.

Jamie Wake awoke in hospital with no recollection of what had happened to him. The 23-year-old had suffered a grade four laceration to his liver after it's believed he was hit by a taxi, on Corporation Road, near the Empire.

Jamie is now recovering at home and his concerned mum, Christina, is hoping members of the public and businesses nearby can shed light on the events that unfolded that night. She told Teesside Live that the first she knew about the incident was at 9am on Sunday, November 26, when Jamie's friend called to say he was in intensive care.

She says Jamie is said to have been found over the road from the Empire near the bus stop. Paramedics initially brought the 23-year-old to A&E for a laceration to his head but it was only after he arrived that the full extent of his injuries were discovered., Jamie's family say.

"When we got there we were told it was a grade four laceration to his liver and it wasn't looking good," said Christina. "They had to keep monitoring him to make sure there wasn't any internal bleeding because if there was they would have to take him straight down to surgery otherwise he could die.

"He had been on a night out. He didn't have a lot to drink, only around four pints. It happened between 12am and 1am on November 26.

"All we've been told is that it was a taxi that hit him. The police had breathalysed the driver at the scene and said they had done nothing wrong and let them go."

Cleveland Police has confirmed that they are still investigating the collision, and a number of witnesses have been spoken to.

Christina says they were told Jamie is believed to have walked out and was "clipped" with the wing mirror of the taxi as it was pulling away, having picked up a fare nearby. She said: "If that's the case, that they were just pulling away from the kerb, how has it done so much damage to Jamie?

"We want to see the footage but the police are still waiting on the CCTV request made. When December 24 comes that will be four weeks and we don't know if it can be recorded over."

The mum-of-two, from Coulby Newham, says the family just want answers and to know what happened that night.

"He was in ICU for three days then moved to the surgical ward just in case anything happened," added Christina, 43. "He was in hospital for a full week and then in bed for a week when he was sent home. He's still off work.

"Nothing has been mentioned and there hasn't been an appeal about this for witnesses to come forward. If it's Jamie's fault and he has walked out then then that's what's happened.

"But if it hasn't been his fault for whatever reason - we just need answers something to just clarify what went on. He doesn't remember anything."

She says the police had initially closed the case after receiving information from paramedics that Jamie's injuries were "see and treat" and she reopened the case after calling the police having seen the extent of his injuries.

"We just want answers," added Christina. "If it is Jamie's fault then that's what happened but we need to be sure."

Cleveland Police is still investigating the collision involving a 23-year-old pedestrian and a taxi, which happened in the early hours of November 26 in Corporation Road, Middlesbrough.

A spokesperson for the force said: "The man was taken to hospital where he received treatment for a serious abdominal injury. He also sustained a head injury during the incident. Police have already spoken to a number of witnesses and officers are also conducting other lines of enquiry including viewing CCTV from the area.

"We would ask any witnesses who have not yet spoken to police or anyone with dashcam or other footage to contact Cleveland Police on the 101 number quoting ref 233449."

What more do they want?

The driver stayed at the scene, he wasn't over any limit, and the police were satisfied with his version of events.

Talk about blame/claim culture. [-(

Driver might get a bill for the ambulance, regardless of circumstances/blame.

Happened to me during the 1980s - don't know if it's still a thing. It was a nominal amount, around £25 IIRC.

This is unrelated, but it's a late night pedestrian collision, and it's also in the north east, and illustrative of the kind of thing that we all know might be just round the corner (literally).

And it's not trade, but...

The drunk pedestrian broke twelve ribs, apparently, and every bone in his leg, but other than that...

Shocking moment drunken reveller dances across busy road before being hit by a car - as police release dashcam footage as warning to 'look out for your mates'

(Tried to find a faster loading version of the video than the one on the Daily Mail's website, but unfortunately can't find it anywhere on the Durham Police website and social media...)

First driver did well to stop, though, and obviously quite good at hazard perception and anticipation.

Which made me wonder if the car with the dashcam could be a 'taxi'. And, lo and behold, take a look on the video of what looks like the reflection of some bit of paper or card on the dashboard, which is reflected on to the windscreen. (The reflection is most visible at the point the car pulls up.)

I'd put money on that being the Durham Council HC tariff card - look at the logo here and compare it to that on the video (remember, it will be upside down...). The curved black line that curves round the corner of the card also matches

The car's white bonnet is also visible, and I think Durham HC's have an all-white colour code...

The aggro this numpty has caused for the police, the NHS, and the poor sod who hit him. Image

I'm just glad this situation was captured on the first car's dashcam.
