Uninsured Handforth taxi driver in court for operating illegally

AN uninsured taxi driver caught illegally plying for hire has been hit with a £1,270 court bill.

Madeh Ahmadi, of Stanley Park Grange, Chelford Grange, Handforth, pleaded guilty to plying for hire whilst he was not licensed as a public hackney carriage at Liverpool and Knowsley Magistrates’ Court.

The 38-year-old was caught operating as a taxi driver on Church Street in Liverpool, whilst driving a Wolverhampton City Council licensed carriage, on September 9, last year, the court heard on March 28.

The defendant also pleaded guilty to driving without third party insurance on the same day.

Ahmadi was fined £400 for each offence and ordered to pay £320 victim surcharge and £150 costs.

His driving licence was endorsed with eight points.

Magistrates took his guilty pleas into account when imposing the sentence.

The defendant was given until June 28 to pay the £1,270 court bill.

I would imagine so, although they probably don't even know they licensed him in the first place.

What's the betting this guy was caught by Liverpool LOs rather than Wolverhampton LOs? :-o

As I recall it, they do quite a lot of plying for hire stuff in Liverpool.

And looking at Liverpool's licensing's Twitter/X feed, their LOs seem to flag up as many Wolverhampton cars as the latter's own feed

(And some of the cars look like they're Wolves-plated, but not described as such in the text, so won't show via the search below...)

Don't know if this link will work - you might need a Twitter account, but I'm not sure:

Another daftie caught by Liverpool LOs at the weekend :-s

Of course, could happen anywhere. But the thing I don't get about Wolverhampton is how they ensure plates and the like are properly affixed in the first place - do they actually inspect cars when they're first plated, and then all that's required is an annual MoT from any garage, or wot?

I would say it's 'or wot'.

Most licensed Wolverhampton PH never set tyres in Wolverhampton, so how would they know even if they actually cared in the first place?
