from "the comet" a new one on me

https://www.thecomet.net/news/24569068.taxi-tariffs-consultation-2024-additional-charges-come/

The main consultation includes three separate options and the council are keen to hear the views of the public, these are:

1. Increase the mileage only
This entails freezing the initial fare at £3.80 and increasing Tariffs, one, two and three by less than 3 per cent.

2. Increase start price and mileage
Another option is to increase the initial fare by five pence (£3.80 to £3.85) while increasing tariffs one, two and three by less than 4 per cent.

3. No change
The initial fare would freeze at £3.80 as well as tariffs one, two and three.

Other changes include potential additional charges - which must be added on the meter at the start of the journey:

Up to two items of baggage or shopping: 20 pence
Three or more items of baggage or shopping: 40 pence (maximum)
For each person in excess of one: 20 pence
Additional charges should total no more than £200
Soiling charge (for whatever reason) £50 (maximum)

The above tariff is proposed to take effect from October 21, 2024.

To find out more, the consultation review and supporting information is available at stevenage.gov.uk/have-your-say/taxi-fares-and-tariffs-consultation-annual-review-2024

not sure everyone will be happy with a maximum soiling charge being set

I wonder how many people from the general public will vote for an increase rather than a freeze in fares.

TBH none of those increases are worth a toss.

If my council offered an increase of 5p on the flag they would be told to stick that increase where the sun doesn't shine.

Surprised none of the sleuths on here managed to notice that clanger :-o

In fact, the official document linked to is a bit ambiguous, because it's got a colon where there should be a decimal point :-k :

However, the current fare card confirms that it is £2 maximum rather than £200 :-o

Of course, since a certain someone on here thinks full stops and the like don't matter, maybe that's why he didn't notice [-(

Either that, or he was too busy telling journalists how to do their jobs to notice
