About 2 months ago I reported a car to Lincoln City Council because it did not have a plate on it. I got a reply on 30 October telling me that the car was plated but there was a backlog in issuing the plates but it would be sent out by the end of the week, November 1st. We are now on December 16th and there is still no plate on the vehicle.
Surely Lincoln City Council can't be that far behind?

This proves Councils are not up to the job, plates should be handed over in person, a vehicle not displayng a plate is commiting an offence and if involved in an accident may be in trouble with insurers as not complying with license conditions.

There are dozens of unplated private hire vehicles working in Lincoln. Ever since covid, there has been this situation. The bloated licensing department back in 2020 were working from home, and could not issue plates and test certificates because no one could, or would, go in to the office to make them up. They would email an exemption letter for any working driver to show to any police officer who might stop them, not that any did, or do, to show that the vehicle was properly licensed, and the driver badges too. That this is still going on is unconscionable. The licensing department is not fit for purpose. At least all the Wolverhampton plated vehicles are properly plated, although many are still carrying signage, which they have been told to remove.
I have read other threads on here where drivers have been unable to work due to plates not being issued.

Since when have councils been able to bypass the 'displaying plate' rules?

I get that they can offer an exemption to certain vehicles, but they can't please themselves with straightforward vehicle applications/renewals.

I emailed the Council and they replied today saying they issue the plate to this vehiocle on October 30th. The operator has asked the driver to collect the plate but so far he hasn't the Council have said that if the plate is not displayed by tonight they will be banning the vehicle.
Well the plate was still not on this afternoon on the school run so I will see in the morning.

Surely the council should have instructed the operator to issue no work to that vehicle until such times the vehicle has it's plate put back on.

Just saw the exact opposite, a Wolverhampton vehicle licensed until 14th January 2026. Love to know what section of what act allows them to do that. #-o
