Available, again, on E-Bay.

An interesting documentary filmed in 1996.

Ah, those were the days.

Dark ages mate, the way drivers were/are treated is out of the dark ages.

Yes the KOL is a pig to do, and takes years. Yes you deserve all the money you take, you've earnt it.

But the whole process is/was wrong. [-(

I've got that one on video somewhere.

That's the one where the black geezer thinks the examiner was taking the Mick by asking him the route to the Commission for Racial Equality.

And asking him about the murder of the white policeman Keith Blakelock by the black mob (allegedly) during the Broadwater Farm disturbances during the Tottenham riots.

(I think it was the (in)famous Mr Orme

Ah, those were the days :?

Why do you claim the "process is /was wrong"? Because it proscribes you from plying for hire in London? I think London has it right, and the rest of the country has it wrong.

I took it to mean that the way testees were treated whilst doing the knowledge and the chaps running the system was outdated and wrong, not the need to do it per se?

Minor correction.

The guy interviewed was Courtney Connell who is now an examiner up at the PCO himself.

The examiner mentioned to him about the killing of Pat Dunne which had happened on the day he had his appearence, saying 'nasty business that PC being shot in Clapham?'

Courtney agreed, and no more was said.

I would have responded in the same manner.

To me, the appearances set you up well for real life 'City' Taxi driving, thats what you can expect from the public, only far worse. :D

It really stuck in the throat with me, having to call the examiners Sir/Ma'am I found it a tad humiliating.

Other than that I think it is a good system as it keeps driver numbers down.

I don't know that one, was there a racial element to it?

My recollection of the programme was that Mr Connell clearly thought there was a racial allusion behind the question.
