And therein lies the hyocrisy. Properly regulated? You 'ave to larff!!!

Perhaps Mr McIntosh should have a word with his English counterpart - Mr Casey would tell him that derestriction of taxi numbers means more taxis at those hours, ergo less danger.

"If in any doubt, walk away."

So, he is not saying don't get in a PHC.

He is saying only get into a CAR which is properly identified!

See - they do need our help

Exclusive DRUNKS AT THE MERCY OF TAXI PREDATORS Cab boss:

They are unregulated - anyone who steps in the car has no record of the booking. This puts safety at risk.

Since when is there a record of a booking when you jump into a cab at a rank ?

But McIntosh said: "The real threat is to public safety. Drunken females, often alone, are stepping into cars they know nothing about.

Surely a compelling arguement for the issue of more taxi licences ?

Fair play to Strathclyde Police but local authorities are the ones to blame.

The Police gave all unlicensed private hire (limos, etc) until last August to get off the road or get licensed but now says no enforcement action will be taken until the councils get their act together ?

Another good example of the buck-passing and the consequent impasse I referred to in the fire engine post last night.

Cleary the police want to do something, but the council don't, thus the police can hardly enforce a licensing regime that doesn't exist because the council prefer to sit on their hands.

No doubt waiting for central government action ](*,)

To me the whole story smacks of an attempt by the Glasgow TOA & their friends in the local gutter press to divert attention form the lack of taxis available at the weekend in the City centre which was recently highlighted by Glasgow City Council themselves

http://www.taxi-driver.co.uk/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=2957

All the TOA care about is preserving their plate values which are in the region of £28k I believe

1430 plates multiplied by £28k is a lot of money

£40,040,000 is a lot of money for the TOA members to lose is suppose

If anything I would say that the stories lend support to the derestriction/more taxi licenses view, although this isn't mentioned specifically in the most recent pieces.

Thus if you are correct then from the TOA's point of view the tactic has backfired somewhat
