Not job, but couldn't help recall this in relation to an incident in Dundee over the weekend.

So the multi-story block (Adamson's Court) nearest to the camera was where the murderer once lived, although he'd moved a mile or so away when he killed the taxi driver here.

Image

At the weekend a lady was stabbed to death a few hundred yards along the road there, and the accused currently lives in the multi-story block :-o

Man in court accused of stabbing Dundee scientist Dr Fortune Gomo to death

The 20-year-old appeared briefly in private and was remanded.

A 20-year-old man accused of murdering a scientist on a Dundee street has appeared in court and been remanded in custody.

Emergency crews rushed to South Road at around 4.25pm on Saturday afternoon after Dr Fortune Gomo was found seriously injured.

Despite the best efforts of paramedics, the 39-year-old scientist was pronounced dead at the scene on South Road.

A murder inquiry was launched by police and today, Kyler Rattray appeared from custody at Dundee Sheriff Court accused of murdering Dr Gomo

He faced a single charge on petition of using a knife to stab her to death.

Rattray, of Adamson Court, made no plea during the brief hearing, which was held in private.

Sheriff Gregor Murray committed Rattray for further examination and remanded him in custody meantime.

A further court hearing will take place within the next eight days.[...]

Certainly not the victim I was expecting, though :-|

When I first read where it had happened, was guessing someone white, and just as likely to die with a syringe somewhere in the vicinity :?

And, like the taxi driver murder itself, at a time I'd not have expected something like this to happen - 4pm on Saturday afternoon.

You can actually see the multi-story block above where the accused lived in the photos below taken a few hundred yards away and with the camera facing in the opposite direction. The multi above is actually the middle one where there are three visible below - the taxi driver murder happened between the two leftmost multis. Look closely in the photo above and there are actually two blocks, and the one only partly visible above is the one closest to camera below :?

(Third image too big to display on here...)

Probably not much of interest to people on here, but when you read stuff like this in the Jersey Evening Post, you'd be forgiven for thinking Dundee generally, and this neighbourhood in particular, is some kind of semi-urban idyll, and it's all came as some sort of huge shock

But apart from the victims background etc, the only surprise in that neck of the woods is that stuff like this doesn't happen more often :-|

Police warn against sharing ‘misinformation’ over death of Dundee scientist

https://jerseyeveningpost.com/morenews/ ... scientist/

Police Scotland have urged the public to avoid sharing “misinformation” following the death of a scientist in Dundee at the weekend.

Dr Fortune Gomo, 39, a mother who worked for Scottish Water, was allegedly attacked in Dundee just before 4.30pm on Saturday.

Detectives say they recognise the “shock” in the local community and improving safety for women and girls is a “priority”.

Dr Gomo died at the scene of the incident despite attempts to save her.

On Monday, Kyler Rattray, 20, appeared in private at Dundee Sheriff Court, facing a single charge of murder.

No plea was entered and he was remanded in custody.

Chief Superintendent Nicola Russell, Dundee local police commander, said detectives were “confident that nobody else was involved and there is no wider threat to the public”.

She said senior officers had met with community leaders “to provide reassurance and support”, and that the murder had “caused shock” in the city, urging the public not to share “misinformation” on social media or to prejudice the court case.

Ms Russell said: “The death of Fortune Gomo has caused shock in Dundee.

“Police Scotland is committed to having safer communities and senior officers have met with representatives from the local community to provide reassurance and support during this incredibly difficult time.

“Fortune’s family and friends, who are being supported by specialist officers, are very much in our thoughts today, as is the wider community.

“A 20-year-old man was arrested shortly after this incident and has been charged in connection with Fortune’s death.

“He appeared at Dundee Sheriff Court today and has been remanded in custody.

“Given that legal proceedings are now under way I am very limited in what I can say regarding the circumstances surrounding this incident, particularly any motive.

“Our inquiries are continuing and we are confident that nobody else was involved and there is no wider threat to the public.

“Working with partners to tackle violence and make Scotland’s communities safe for all women and girls is a priority for Police Scotland.

“I am also acutely aware of misinformation being shared on social media and would urge the public not to speculate on the circumstances or post anything which could compromise a future court case and bring further distress to Fortune’s family.

“We have increased our patrols in the area so you will see more officers out on the streets of Dundee. I would encourage anyone with any concerns at all to speak with those officers.

“I would also like to ask anyone who was in the South Road area of Dundee around 4.25pm on Saturday and who may have information to please come forward. You can contact us by calling 101 and quote incident number 2283 of July 5 2025.

“Information can also be given to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

Not sure what that means, precisely Sussex, but it's quite common in Scotland with first court appearances on serious charges.

All cases/hearings in the adult criminal court down here are held in the open.

If there is something that the court doesn't want shared openly, they simply make an order that it isn't.

I mean, this was reported last week from the multi-story block nearest to the camera above:

Man, 39, charged after carrying offensive weapon in Dundee

Police were called to Elders Court in Lochee at around 8pm on Friday.

Also this reported in the last couple of days, another few hundred yards away, and close to where the taxi driver was murdered.

And another unexpected one - who'd have expected a 'barista' and students attending Radio 1's Big Weekend to be walking down Lochee High Street late on Saturday.

Plenty of pubs and shops on Lochee High Street, but not many 'baristas' :-o

I'd guess even the press aren't allowed into private hearings here. Think I've read that they may take place in the sheriff's private chambers, or whatever.

In fact, also now recall the phrase 'has appeared in chambers', which I think is much the same thing. Maybe it's the same process, but just different or more modern terminology.

If ever the press were excluded in the adult criminal court down here the higher judiciary would have forty fits.

And that's on a good day.

More fun and games just where the driver was battered down the slope - you can see the charging points in the background in the video below :-o

I saw this report earlier on the Courier's website about a 'bladed weapon' incident in Lochee:

Girl, 14, charged after ‘bladed weapon’ incident in Dundee

https://www.thecourier.co.uk/fp/news/53 ... ee-lochee/

Police were called to St Ann Lane in Lochee on Saturday night.

Which I took to be just a normal Dundee sort of thing. Imagine my surprise when, later on, I was looking at some 'far-right' stuff orginating from England - you know, the kind of social media feeds that will be chocabloc with stuff about asylum seekers at migrant hotels making life hell for the local women etc etc, or promoting Tommy Robinson's big march in London next month :-|

So that's how this in Dundee is being portrayed here. Well the person doing the filming certainly doesn't sound like a native Dundonian. The girls in the video certainly do, though :?

Video viewed 2.5million times, apparently:

And Robinson himself has posted the video. And, according to zillions of mainly anonymous posts on various accounts, the girl was only protecting herself because she or her sister were about to be raped :-|

Not really how I'd automatically see it, but we'll see...

Beg to differ. All kinds of cases, including Criminal, can be held "In Camera", or secret if you prefer.

I suspect I'm the only one on here that's been following this, but it's one of the scariest things I've seen on social media. It's everywhere on Twitter, etc, particularly in England and the USA. One copy of the video has been viewed 10million times on an obscure US news site. There's memes, AI images, all portraying that 12-year-old girl as some sort of Braveheart fighing back against foreign invaders trying to rape here.

But more or less total silence up here. However, this is on the Courier's website this morning. For once I'm actually agreeing with a lot of what the lefties are saying. Except that the stuff at the bottom of this article is just largely BS from the other direction :?

Elon Musk and Tommy Robinson accused of spreading misinformation over Dundee ‘knife’ incident

https://www.thecourier.co.uk/fp/news/53 ... -incident/

Posts have been shared on social media after 14-year-old girl was charged for the alleged possession of a weapon in Lochee.

Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, has been accused of spreading misinformation over an alleged knife incident in Dundee.

A 14-year-old girl was charged on Saturday after allegedly being caught with what police described as a “bladed weapon” in Lochee.

Since then, several posts have been shared on social media claiming the girl and her friends had earlier been followed, recorded and “chatted up” by two people.

A number of the posts make reference to the supposed ethnicity of the two people accused of targeting the girls.

But Police Scotland has confirmed to The Courier that its investigation into the incident on St Ann Lane has concluded.

It is understood that, despite reviewing CCTV and making other inquiries, officers have found nothing to support the allegations made against the two individuals highlighted in the posts.

‘Very concerning’

On Tuesday, X owner Mr Musk – who has a following of nearly 225 million on the platform he bought in 2022 – reposted one of the allegations about the girl being recorded by “a migrant”.

That post also repeated sections of The Courier’s coverage of the incident from the weekend, a report that made no mention of race or immigration status.

Musk then hit out at those who have criticised the alleged actions of the teenager, branding them “pathetic grovelers”.

Meanwhile, right-wing activist Tommy Robinson – real name Stephen Yaxley-Lennon – has also posted about it to his 1.4m followers on X.

The 42-year-old repeated the allegation that youngsters were being “filmed by a migrant” and said it was “very concerning”.

On Tuesday afternoon, he claimed “the men of Scotland” were “stepping in to patrol Dundee”.

‘Dangerous and divisive’

Nadia El-Nakla – councillor for Dundee’s West End and wife of ex-First Minister Humza Yousaf – told us: “This is deeply concerning for many reasons.

“Everyone has the right to feel safe in our streets.

“Carrying a knife is a crime, and we must uphold a policy of zero tolerance towards knife crime.”

Ms El-Nakla, the equalities spokesperson for the Dundee SNP group, added: “It is also clear that elements of the far right are attempting to hijack this incident to spread a racist, anti-immigration agenda.

“This is both dangerous and divisive, and it threatens the cohesion of our communities.

“Here in Dundee, we will not allow this to take root. The facts of the incident have been provided by our police service.

“These should be trusted — not the disinformation being pushed by those who wish to vilify asylum seekers and immigrants.”

English Defence League (EDL) co-founder Mr Robinson last year stoked far-right race riots in England from a luxury hotel in Cyprus.

He was also criticised for spreading misinformation about a stabbing in Stirling.

We have contacted Mr Robinson and Mr Musk for comment.

Last year the X billionaire was embroiled in a war of words with former FM Mr Yousaf, who lives in Broughty Ferry.

‘Spread of misinformation’

Stand Up to Racism Tayside said: “Misinformation serves a particular narrative and distracts from the real issues in our society: austerity and increasing poverty, widespread mental health crises and isolation, all rooted in the failures and mismanagement of our governments.

“The spread of this misinformation endangers by inviting hatred and violence towards members of our communities who are already so marginalised.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 7.40pm on Saturday, August 23, we received a report of a female youth with a weapon in St Ann Lane, Dundee.

“Officers attended and a 14-year-old girl was charged in connection.

“She will be reported to the relevant authorities.”

Several posts? There are literally thousands of them, and they've been viewed multi-million times throughout the world.

There are thousands of this kind of nonsense:

https://archive.is/5PBdu

This is Elon Musk's tweet here, viewed 15 million times:

https://x.com/elonmusk/status/1960370872914460995

This is Tommy Robinson's latest tweet here, which Musk retweeted:

https://x.com/TRobinsonNewEra/status/19 ... 6517152946

The irony is, if Tommy Robinson appeared in Lochee he'd probably be run out of there. All those dafties seem to think Lochee is full of Union Jacks and migrant hotels. Reality is, a Union flag would soon be torn down, and migrants are pretty rare on the ground, at least compared to the likes of Bradford and Luton, say.

One of the biggest problems the world faces is social media (says someone posting on social media).

People believe what they want to believe and spread that information to others. The actual truth matters little.
