Photos have been submitted to this newspaper showing the remains of a taxi that had been on fire in Worthing.

The images showed the vehicle in Rugby Road on the morning of Wednesday, December 31.

The photos also showed tape with the words ‘fire do not cross’ wrapped around the vehicle.

A spokesperson for West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service said: “We were called at 10.28pm on Tuesday 30 December to reports of a vehicle on fire on Rugby Road in Worthing.

“Joint Fire Control mobilised one fire engine to the scene. Upon arrival firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the fire using one high pressure hose reel.

“They remained on scene and checked over the vehicle with a thermal imaging camera to ensure there were no further signs of fire. Fortunately there were no casualties as a result of this incident which is believed to have begun accidentally. The crew left the scene at 11.10pm.”

Ah poor old zafira but I reckon the driver is going to have to cough up double or more to replace it.
