Peter Surmaj was nearly three times over the legal limit when police stopped his vehicle.

A man who was caught drink driving has been granted a Glasgow private hire licence.

Peter Surmaj was granted the licence to drive private hire vehicles for a year and received a severe warning at today’s licensing and regulatory committee.

Surmaj was nearly three times over the legal limit when police stopped his vehicle in Largs in November 2022.

He failed a breathalyser test and was fined £300 and disqualified from driving for 12 months at court in February 2023.

Police Scotland objected to his application at the committee today, citing he is not a fit and proper person to hold the licence.

Surmaj told the committee at the time of the offence his friend had passed away from cancer and he also had health problems.

He said: “I made a mistake. I haven’t drank since then.”

A reformed alcoholic eh ! let's hope he doesn't fall off the wagon then.
