On Wednesday, April 1, several police cars were seen in Church Street, near the Brighton Dome, during the afternoon.

Sussex Police confirmed the teams were carrying out a "joint taxi compliance" operation, which looked to ensure taxis travelling in the city were correctly licensed and compliant to licensing regulations.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: "On Wednesday, officers from Sussex Police’s Commercial Vehicle Unit and the Sussex Fatal 5 team carried out a joint taxi compliance operation, following a request from the Brighton and Hove and Lewes Licensing teams.

"The operation focused on Hackney Carriage and private hire drivers, with the aim of ensuring full compliance with licensing regulations, verifying vehicle roadworthiness, and confirming that all drivers were correctly licensed and insured."

He added: "Over a four-hour period, a total of 48 vehicles were stopped and inspected. Five vehicles were identified with mechanical defects, all of which were dealt with at the roadside.

"In addition, several drivers were issued formal warnings for minor breaches of local licensing requirements.

"Vehicles licensed across several areas were checked during the operation, including Brighton and Hove, Lewes, Chichester, Mid Sussex and Crawley."

Which can only mean bulbs, and not wearing badges.

It's where Abba won the Eurovision Song Contest.

And where Bing Crosby played his last ever concert.

And which council's car is that in the first photo - certainly doesn't look like B&H-plated? High-res version here:
