Pretty bog standard stuff here by Glasgow press and reporting standards. Except for the fact that it's an HC plate rather than the more normal PH badge stuff.

There's another possible dimension to that that I meant to post about as well, but didn't get round to it. Or maybe thought the better of it 8-[

But, in a nutshell, it seems that several people, er, on the right of politics turned up at the meeting because they're unhappy about who's being granted/renewed licences against police advice.

And those people certainly seem to think that they managed to influence the committee just by turning up :-o

So maybe the likes of this guy would have been renewed if the protestors hadn't rolled up to the meeting and sat in the public gallery :?

Taxi operator refused licence renewal after abusive messages uncovered

Police Scotland objected to Steesh Singh's application to renew the licence for Craigpark Taxi Service

An officer told Glasgow’s licensing committee that Steesh Singh, who manages the licence, had engaged in “a course of behaviour which was abusive to his partner or ex-partner”.

She said he had sent abusive text messages, voice notes and phone calls.

Councillors also heard on one occasion he had held the victim “by the shoulders and wrists” and “used his body to block” her from getting past him.

Mr Singh’s sentence included a six-month supervision period and a £600 fine, the officer said. She added he was ordered to refrain from approaching, contacting or communicating with the victim for 18 months.

The applicant told councillors he had been in a long-term relationship and suspected his partner was having an affair.

“It’s not my character to act like that,” he added. “My emotions were all over the place.”

Councillor Alex Wilson, SNP, the committee chairman, said: “I understand people have relationship breakdowns.

“However, you’ve been found guilty of behaving in a manner that is not becoming of someone, especially when it comes down to action against a female.”

Mr Singh said: “I take responsibility for my actions, it’s not something I’m proud of.”

The committee decided to refuse the renewal application.
