As Bill states, at the moment, unless the council continue down the legal route open to them in their attempt to protect the public and the taxi trade from profiteers like these, a maximum of 5 extra plates may be issued.

Contrary to what others may think this is NOT de-restriction in any way, shape or form; it is purely down to the incompetence of individuals within the council's employ; officials who are charged with keeping councillors informed as to their legal obligations. Will those people be disciplined? Will they resign? I doubt it, but until we have some proper representation and dialogue with the council, we run the risk of our trade being vandalised again by a minority of fools.

As for any new applications made now, the council is no longer vulnerable, being in possession of up to date information and having the situation at the airport under constant review in case of any new demand being unmet.

5 is the number of outstanding applications and the public need protecting from the dropping standards that would ensue if derestriction arrived.
