The minicab stop provides not only a safe late-night environment for the public and taxi drivers but should boost the council's efforts to stamp out unlicensed and illegal cab operators.

I thought it was encouraging it :?

The Taxee pick up point in Kingston is meant to be 'marshalled' by a private security firm, my contact, Tony Ellis informs me twice this month none of the 'marshals' has bothered to turn up, leading to a free for all for every tout and Minicab driver in the area.

Still, it won't be long until the first rape, and that will put stop to this daft idea. :-|

If you've pre-booked a car, you know where its going to be, as you arrange it beforehand, thats the whole idea if having pre-booked it by phone.

It's the rapes etc that led to this idea.

So you don't agree that when the 'marshals' don't bother to turn up (on a regular basis), and a general free for all happens (which includes any tout that fancys nicking a job) theres no chance of a sexual assault occuring which will have an impact on the future of this pick up point? :-s

Getting rid of the pick-up point will not reduce the number of sexual assaults.

The fact that the marshalls didn't turn up is not good, but having them there at some time is better than at no time.

As for ID, you tell me how customers are going to find the right car when you have 100s of people all looking for their cars home.

Or are you now a fan of LPH signage?

London's a vast place, 'hundreds' of people don't all book cars at the same time and the same place, even at the biggest of the night clubs around Kingston, there are probably a couple of dozen pre-booked cars waiting for the kick out time.

As for your second point, I thought it was a 'forgone' coclusion that signage was being allowed, and the consultation was mearly an excercise?

I now make it April by on my good LTDA callender.

Like to stick my oar in if you dont mind....The whole minicab licensing exercise is complete and utter bo77ox.... MrX from prague just released from a 20 year stretch for serial rape can "get to know" London...apply for a PH licence.....get a temporary licence pending the return of the CRB check six weeks later...(which may well come up with nothing)..... and operate freely with the blessing of Ken....

Then change his name and do it all over again........... :?

Hear about the Addy Lee driver who took his passenger from the Wellington Hospital to the Heathrow Express via Marble Arch cuz Bishops Bridge had been closed for 18 months and he knew no other way!!!

I think the basic problem is that PH licensing in London was always going to be fairly 'light touch' because that path is clearly easier to implement than radical reform (obviously).

If the trade hadn't been left unregulated for years then it would have been easier to reform, but cleary that damage can't be undone now.

That's not the fault of the LPH driver or the driver's union/association, but of the LPH operators and the gutless PCO. [-X

Don't know why, but when I see a lot of the stuff posted on here I immediately think of GBC, and this was a classic example. I wonder why?

Its a bit like when I see the never ending stuff on de-limiting, I always spare you a thought.
