as for the advert in the een.
its more than the taxi firms have ever done.cant remember city/central advertising ever can you ?
you do seem to have a real problem with any kind of competition.
i know its nice to be in a protected market place, but im afraid those old practices that we have all become acustomed to in the trade are rapidly diminishing. welcome to the real world ross.

A meter only becomes a taxi meter when fitted in a taxi.

Alan G usefully posted this a few months ago from the Scottish Act, I believe:

Quote:
If any person demands fares or other charges in respect of the hire of a taxi or for the hire of a private hire car which is fitted with a taximeter in excess of the scales established under sections 17 and 18 of this Act, he shall be guilty of an offence and liable, on summary conviction, to a fine not exceeding £2,500.

Thus it seems that even when a meter is in a PH car it is still a taximeter.

this is of course the important stuff the taxi drivers deal with in edinburgh.
when is a taximeter not a taximeter.
apperently when its not in a taxi.
still it does the same thing but lets call it.....mmmmmmmm a candy floss machine, yep that oughta fool the public and the taxi drivers.
should keep us all happy
important stuff or what :?:

Oxford dictionary

overhead 3. (of expenses) arising from general running costs as distinct from particular business transactions.

in reply to your points ross

point 1.
sorry you lost me there ross. what about poor Mrs jones who is not in a wheelchair but is classed as disabled dont you care about her is she any less dissabled than a person in a wheelchair ???? has she got to buy a wheelchair so you can then call her dissabled???? or should you just not be allowed in to the greenways now thats making it fair for all dissabled people?????

point 2
your a bus now   call 999 you need help the point i made was in the CEC guide lines it says "TAXI METTER" in the PH section. but thats ok mate you will sort all that out

point 3
i walk in to where my hire is and say "cab for smith" and sometimes before i can say anything they say "you my taxi be right there"or "thats the TAXI here boys" etc etc not my words theres i dont care what they call me as long as they get in asap and then pay me.
but you cant blame them when they see a TAXI metter Fitted can you????

point 4
ross our overheads are the same just on a diff scale. but lets not go there as we will never agree on that.

point 5
i think ALI T has given you your answer on that one.

who was it that sets the fares again?????also ross got told tonight that taxis are only allowed in the greenways when they have a hire is there any truth in this.

Answer this question
ross

had a passanger in CAB wooooops sorry car who told me i was a TAXI. i told her i was not and even pointed out the diff between PH and TAXIs but she was not having it at all.
i wonder if its that silly taximetter thats causing the problem who know

any ideas:?: :?: :?: :?: :?:

also asked a nice old bloke today when i was doing a TAXICARD job (yes i said taxicard) why he used PH and not a Black Hacks. his answer was
"quite simple son cant get out the seat when i get in the TAXIS"
