i dont inderstand this, if he already a plate and sold it, then why is he trying to undermine all the other hard working folks in edinburgh.

I have sussed it, this is the only place that takes his grievances seriously, like TDO once said to me, birds of the same feather all stick together

Where does the £40,000 plate value come from?

People pay the market price show me how this value equates to a taxi plate bought in Edinburgh.

A "mug" does not an economic argument make?

Give me a break down if it is not restricting access to a product or a service what is it?

Price fixing is exactly that. Restricting Access to a Product or a Service

I want to pay £700 for a plate I am a licenced taxi driver what's the problem?

187ums this is about no one having to pay £40,000 for a licence plate or more for that matter.

Especially if you are earning less week by week, year by year. Or can't you see this?

This system depends on ars**** like you. You don't pay more and more out for less and less.

Perhaps you disagree?

I think the mug argument is best, I dont see any economics in it.

Sussex, you can have one of mine

Your not restricting access in that kind of term, because any idiot can walk to a cab rank and I think a judge stated that too

We have one milkman in our little suburb, I never see any other milkmen so I cant see a free market operating, although I suppose if I go to ASDA, thats the same as using PH. :-k

Come to think of it, I paid £55K for my house 6 years ago, now its worth £140K, now call me a divvy, but wages aint nearly trebled.

Go Figure, I suppose its the next mug argument

You go to your bank manage and say what exactly? “I want to re-mortgage my house to buy a taxi plate”. “Give me 40k”? The bank manger says “show me your business plan, market research SWOT analysis etc”? You reply “I haven’t based my decision on any economic factors, market research and the like”. “What I can tell you is we are earning less than we did 5 years ago, taxi plates have double in value and the Ph and bus service is eating away our market share. There is no growth coming into the trade because our competitors are eating it up, but hey who cares. I want to spend 40k on a licence plate because I am a mug”.

This works for me I can see where you get the 40k from and it has nothing to do with price fixing.

Mr Thomson, for someone who claims to "not give a sh*t about the taxi trade", why do you continually go on about whats right and whats wrong in the running of the trade?
For someone who doesn't give a sh*t, you seem to have a lot to say.
