I sit a medical every year just like Jimmy Hunter. Only last year I was told categorically my licence was to be revoked at the direction of the council claiming Stage 1 Diabetics were not fit to drive. End of Story. Even the Council Lawyers said the same thing. I prepared a complete report of all the relevant and up-to-date information including recently completed research data and forthcoming changes in legislation. Go up and ask them it’s all on record. That lot would have rammed me in an instant given the opportunity.

I never owned my taxi the finance company, Lti and John Paton & Son owned the taxi. The plate is owned by the council. The truth is you own sh** all. Everyone owns a piece of your as*. What you do own is the Direct Debit Monster which tells you every month it’s all sh**. The Council uses their “Kangaroo Court” and “De-restriction” like “The Sword of Damocles” dangling above your head to keep you in line. The trade and company reps are no better.
Six years ago it was a drivers market and we were all working less hours and making more money. The Ph was nearly nonexistent. Now the over supply of driver and the resulting shortage of shifts is used to inflate rentals and plate premiums. In the mean time the Ph has double diluting the work with the council subsidised bus company diluting the work even further. And you want everyone to server their owner like good little employees. In a free market you sell your services subject to the availability of work by providing your services without restriction. You compete against others providing the same or a similar service within the market.
It's time the driver's out there got the chance to do exactly that. The only reason the trade in plates has lasted this long is on the backs of the drivers. It has nothing to do with the availiable work.
You don’t have to be a rocket scientist you could not be further away form being a businessman if you tried. Like I said before you are nothing more than a pseudo employee of the Council.

could I ask how you too make a living, when your on here arguing, I was up in the smoke yesterday to pick up at the Waverly and could have made an absolute fortune with the number of punters trying to flag me down, I just wish we had the same opportunities to make money as you do up there after I dropped off went to the rank and sat for 2 hours without moving then only did a £3.00 hire, in total I did 5 hires from 7pm till 11.30pm
