Hi Skippy, I bet you have a mullet !

I wonder how a licensing authority would deal with a transvestite driver who wanted to dress as a women on duty ?

Surely in this day of 'equality' it would not be a problem doing your job dressed like a drag queen ?

For what it's worth I look forward to the smoking ban. =D>

Is it a fascist piece of law? Who knows?

Will it save lives in the future? Oh yes!

HEADLINE: TOWN MAN IS FIRST TO BE FINED

A GLENROTHES taxi driver has become the first person in Fife to be fined under new anti-smoking legislation. William Difolco, from Macedonia, was issued with a fixed penalty notice - the first to be issued in the Kingdom - for smoking in his car on Thursday, July 6. This has been an offence since March 26 when the smoking ban came into force. Mr Difolco, who works for Billie's Cabs in the town, told The Gazette he was annoyed at being fined £50 because there weren't any passengers in his taxi at the time.

The 54-year-old local cabbie, who has been smoking for 30 years, said: "I was just drawing into the taxi rank at the bus station when an environmental health officer came over and that was it. "I don't normally work during the week and was covering for someone who was off. There was no-one in the car at the time, the window was down and I had just lit up my cigarette.

"All the taxi drivers who smoke are annoyed about this because you can be sitting in your car for most of the day and there is nowhere to go to have a cigarette. What are you supposed to do when it's pouring with rain? Where can you go? You can't smoke in bus shelters. Or if you are stuck in traffic for hours, if you are heading towards Edinburgh, what do you do then if you want a cigarette? "People in private cars can smoke with their windows down so I don't see why taxi drivers can't. "I was fined £50 and I won't be doing it again because the fine goes up to £200."

Tell us what you think. E-mail debbie.clarke@fifetoday.co.uk

Obviously a non-smoker.

And one who would throw out freedom because it suits you. For now.

But what happens when the next freedom being curbed is yours?

As for saving lives? Fatuous nonsense.

Cigarette sales haven't gone down, they didn't in Ireland. All that's happened is that smoking habits have changed, not been stopped.

Oh, and cheap alcohol off-sales has increased. More bingeing at home.

Bad law.

JD I could not help notice the words environmental officer, not officers
Well if there was only 1 of them they are not permitted to hand out fines, as they need to be witnessed.
I received this info from the officer here in the Borders who I have known for years
So if that is the case he should appeal imediently

Might be a bit difficult for him since he's admitted to it in the local press?

Mind you, he seems to think that because he wasn't normally shifted at that time then that seems to be some kind of defence, so perhaps he'd give it a go anyway

oor billy! quiet a famous character it seems! When he was caught 2 officers were present, but only 1 jumped in the taxi to issue the paperwork, the other standing by the window. Billy didnt argue because there were 2 present and he knew he had been caught "bang to rights". What actually happened was he was finishing a fag driving back into the rank and the 2 gestapo.....sorry enviromental officers were in a bus shelter parallel with the rank watching taxis arrive and leave. Interestingly enough one national daily has agreed to cover billy's £50 fine in exchange for a few photo's.

If it's worth fighting for then I will be at the front of the queue, but I don't believe the smoking ban is worth fighting against. IMO the opposite.

Smoking kills.
