HEADLINE: DEN GIVES BEEB SOME WELLIE

BYLINE: KEVIN O'SULLIVAN

THE brilliant idea for a multi-million-pound business selling see-through wellies came to budding entrepreneur Bunny Hargreaves while she was sipping a glass of champagne. Her 22nd.

Bunny called her company Crystal Boots. And, for reasons best known to herself, the poor woman seemed convinced that flogging transparent Wellingtons with colourful socks - yours for only pounds 20 a pair - would reap her a staggering fortune.

Standing before the four judges of the apocalypse on BBC2's Dragons' Den, Bunny looked pleased as punch as she paraded her pioneering footwear.

She had not a doubt in the world that the moment she, completed her amazing pitch to the panel of super-rich . tycoons they'd be falling over themselves to offer her the pounds 100,000 investment she needed. And then Dragon j Theo Paphitis delivered his verdict.

"You look like a bag lady," he said as Bunny's perky' disposition crumbled on the spot.

Start-up mogul Peter Jones added: "I think your boots are absolutely ridiculous." By now Bunny looked like a deflated balloon, all her hopes and dreams shattered in five hilarious minutes. Dragons' Den is fast turning into the funniest show on telly.

What on earth was Gerard Tomnay thinking of when he came up with his absurd taxi drivers' phone service for people who are lost in London?

"Have you heard of SatNav?" inquired redoubtable retail mogul Deborah Meaden as it suddenly dawned on Gerard that the wonders of new technology had already rendered his . "brain" child redundant.

And don't get me started on the hideous armchair gymnasium. When charismatic Scotsman Duncan Bannatyne tried out the madcap machine - a disgusting looking recliner with springs, chains and pedals bursting out all over the place - he completely lost it. Bent double, helpless with hysterical laughter, Duncan had tears streaming down his face. So did I. If you worry that you're a complete failure, tune in to this side-splitting series. Then you'll realise things could be worse.

If there were realistic or Sensible business ideas every week would you watch it ? People making complete *rs*s of themselves on telly is what bumps up the viewing figures

Too many stupid ideas being ripped apart all the time starts to wear a bit thin I find. I enjoyed previous series more when there were far more smart investment ideas thrown in to the mix as well. I'd love to know how some of them got on, like that guy who convinced the dragons to invest in a truffle growing business. I'd love to see a follow-up program that reveals how the investments panned out. Is there such a thing?

It's getting to be a bit like an adult version of playground bullying really - put people up on stage who are completely talantless or who have a ridiculous idea to make money, then have a good old laugh at them.

And if you're too old/high brow for the X factor then the Dragons' Den is just for you :?
