Been reading last month's private hire magazine and there was an article in there about a company who is putting stickers on pound coins, then it hands the stickers to the public in change!

I thought that this is a great idea, so if anybody knows where i can get round stickers from can you please enlighten me. Also, if anybody is working with a company who uses this method tell me what you think about it and does it get good feedback?

By the way, it said it is not illegal to place stickers on coins as they are removable, it is only illegal to deface money permanently apparently!!

Yes this is absolutely correct about the defacing of money, something about the queens head and all that, however perfectly legal to put a sticker on it. I personally have used this method of advertisement and used round stickers from a company called Stationary Box and just got them printed up at the local printers, however they were not too successful as you cant really get a lot of info on them, but i guess if all you want is a taxi number on them then cant really see a problem with that

I think there is a thread on here where that was discussed.

My view is that I don't think there are many things that would pi** me off more than receiving change with stickers on.

Forcing advertising on people annoys them putting cards or other advertising in a convenient location so that they can CHOOSE to take it doesn't

I read a few weeks ago in the Scottish Sun about an Edinburgh hack system (I think it was Central) using the stickers on pound coins. I think they were getting complaints about it from customers.

Anyway, I think in theory it sounds a good idea, but probably just because it's unique. When you think about it, it isn't very practical. I mean, drivers must be sitting on the rank sticking stickers onto coins between jobs.

I'd be interested to hear whether any other firms have tried this and if anyone else has heard about the Edinburgh situation.

I've had punters pay me with pound coins with pub stickers on them, but they annoyed me, because I don't like the hard sell and I would have to remove them before giving them to anyone else.

That kind of think is a bit too 'in your face' for me, just like being cold called, that silly sponsorship of TV programmes these days and things like Cab-ti-vate in taxis.
