A public complaint website to report dodgy taxi firms or drivers has been launched by West Lancashire District Council.

The Council has an excellent working relationship with the taxi trade, who work hard to ensure a quality service is provided to the public of West Lancashire. However, in order to maintain these high standards, the Council has now made it easier for customers who feel they have received a poor quality service to comment about it online.

The new website forms offer advice to help direct your complaint to the most appropriate person. For example, the Council will deal with complaints relating to poor vehicle maintenance or providing a bad service, whereas complaints about reckless driving, sounding the horn or other road traffic offences should be directed to the Police.

There are two online forms that people can choose to fill in, depending on whether it is a complaint about a driver or the actual taxi firm.

Cllr David Westley, Portfolio Holder for Community Services, said: "We enjoy very good relations with our local taxi firms and drivers and it is extremely rare for us to receive complaints about them. However, we pride ourselves on maintaining high standards and so this latest information on the website will help strengthen our partnership with them even further. It's also coming up to the party season, which means it's more likely that even more people will be using taxis, especially out of hours. Therefore, if people do feel the need to complain, they can do so in the comfort of their own home 24/7 - saving themselves another journey!"

Cllr Adrian Owens, Portfolio Holder for IT, added: "These latest new additions to the website complement the already extensive list of online complaint forms, such as reporting fly-tipping, noise concerns, dog fouling, food complaints, planning breaches or benefit fraud. So you can access Council services in the comfort of your own home, day or night, in a quick, convenient manner."

To make it even easier for customers to fill in the online forms, the Council has made further improvements to help them use the system, which include help boxes that clearly explain what information should be inserted.

The amazing convenience of the Internet! But is it really more convenient to use the net, or just pick up the phone? I suppose the Internet is better because all such complaints have to be put in writing. But could such a system be abused?
