I recall an incident in our area last year where a young girl 18/19 years old, gets a taxi, she's not feeling to well [from drink], they get almost to the destination, a few hundred yards from her home, she decides to stop the taxi, pay the fare and get out and walks the rest of the way to freshen up, driver then goes on his way back for another job

a week or so later he is hauled in to the Council

The girl made up some cock and bull story to her mother, that the taxi driver had flung her out and made her walk, her mother wrote to the council complaining, the driver was given a pep talk by the LO re leaving young girls to find their way home on a dark night

you just can't win

Perhaps the Taxi driver has a different story to tell and Without knowing the full facts it would be wrong to draw any conclusions? Why would a Taxi driver throw the passenger out when supposedly the controler told him he would get paid on arrival by someone else? We've all had stunts pulled on us by people who have had the look of respectability about them and just because this young lady had a child with her does not automatically suggest she will pay the fare?

Regards

Reminds me of a job a hack took from York railway stn to Birmingham, bloke in pin stripe suit, plus brief case, can't remember the fare but think it was about 160 quid

took him on trust, got to destination, ok driver just pull over here at the bank, won't be two ticks, going in the bank for the money for the taxi fare.

a few minutes pass by, then a traffic warden appears, here, you can't park here he says, taxi driver says, just waiting to get paid for taxi fare from York, the bloke went in the bank 10 minutes, the traffic warden did mention that the bank had another door leading out onto another street, led to believe he left his brief case as security, which when opened by the taxi driver a couple of soiled underwear was found

so the taxi driver had a nice drive back empty handed, albiet with a poxy brief case

Maybe he has, more than likely his version is the true version

you try telling that to the Kangeroo court at the Council, surely these people, the Council should be on our side, after all we pay their wages

when I was summond in, [never again, they can b"llocks]] you are treated that you are a wrong one as soon as you step in the office because of some poxy sod who takes time out to write a letter to the council to try and get their own back on the driver of the taxi

If I wrote a letter to the coppers and said Mr X threatened me, they would say have you got a witness,
but complaints against taxi drivers don't need that do they in the Councils eyes

I had a job many years ago.
It was about 3am and two young girls walked into the office(about 12 yrs old). I dropped the first one at her house and made sure she went through the front door. The second girl went about a mile away and asked me to drop her on the street, I told her I was not very happy about this and would prefer to drop her at her house. She paid me the fare and got out. I got straight on the radio and told the controller to make a note of the time that I dropped her. I went to the local police station and told them about it, but they were not interested. I made the copper write down the time and date that I visited the police station and went straight back to the office.
WE can leave ourselves wide open to trouble in these circumstances.

Audio video would help (to prove what happened), but you cant make someone stay in your vehicle against their wishes.
Ive had a few who say " ive only got £10, when it get to this i'll walk the rest of the way. If their femail i'll take them home (within reason) but im sure some play on your concerns and are pulling a stunt.

I think most agree that dumping her early was not on, and certainly not worth the grief. But we wait and see for the final truth.

If she offered the phone he should have taken it, but then she might have accused him of nicking it and leaving her high and dry without any way of getting home.

In short we can't win, so we just have to lump this sh** every now and again.

seems to me to be a difference between 'cant pay' and 'wont pay'

Would like to give this story another angle, a couple of years ago I picked up a very upset Chinese girl who had been robbed at Victoria station she said she had to go to the Chinese embassy to get a temporary passport to allow her to fly home, she was very distressed and informed me she only had £10 and also had to get to T2 LAP I took her to the Embassy then on to Heathrow she had cheered up by know and went to give me the £10 I declined and said go and buy a nice lunch. I gave her my name and address and pointed out on the meter the £65 fare....three weeks later I recieved a very nice thank you letter, a beautiful silk scarf and four crispy new £50 notes......just call me an old softie! :)

"From the details given this is absolutely unacceptable behaviour by the driver involved. All drivers have a duty of care to their passengers, particularly vulnerable ones like a woman and a toddler travelling in the early hours. There are strict conditions attached to their licence on how drivers should behave.

Oh please!

I think this council official needs to wake up to the real world.

Two weeks ago I picked up three young girls (about 13-15 years old) at 8.00pm on a Friday night. Two were merry the other one was passed out. They slapped her round the face a few times to try and wake her up which failed so they dragged her into the car (literally) and spent most of the journey to where they were going trying to figure out how they were going to get teir passed out friend into the pub!

Passed out friend start to be sick - I warned them about the £100.00 spoilage charge we have and they decide to get out the car. They grabbed their friends legs and dragged her out the car smacking her head on the taxi and the road and rolled her to the gutter. And paid me my £3.00.

As i drove off I say the local community support officer, duty of care I thought and suggested he wandered other to them to check that they were ok.

later I heard from one of my regulars that the CSO had to call an ambulance for her and obviously her friends had taken offence at me having involved the law and ruining their night that made claims that I made lewd suggestions to them and tried to assualt them!

Needless to say I'm now having CCTV installed and to hell with duty of care to passengers. If they have to be dragged out they can stay in the gutter. I don't give a damn about their health or safety anymore.

It's a sad world we live in now.
