Here in Brighton our LA used to allow up to 6 months after a badge expired to renew. They have now told everyone that any expired licence will not be renewed without taking the knowledge tests etc again. Is this common practise around the country?

Interesting, I've never come across that.

But I suppose if you haven't got a license then you haven't got a license. :?

In Edinburgh they make you do all sorts of things like re-sit the knowledge or take part in various training modules.

I know of one guy who got his licence back after being made to sit cab maintenance and customer care modules at his own expense.

I think he was off for about a month.

This is due to the forelock tuggers of course. The trades so called representative bodies accepting any old shi* rather than rock-the-boat.

And if you rock-the-boat you know what that means - more plates.

For anyone who doesn't know the forelock tuggers in Edinburgh - they are the Edinburgh Taxi Information Group (ETIG) although I'm not sure if they exist any more. And the Hire Car Licencing Consultation Group (HCLCG). Some would say they all come under the banner - WE WILL DO ANYTHING YOU WANT AS LONG AS IT MEANS NO MORE PLATES

in dundee you have to go through both test/mnedical if you dont pay for your badge on the given date,i remnember a few years ago a private hire operator forgot to renew his plate on time,he got his plate suspended for six months,a few hack plate operators forgot to renew their plates on time last year, all lost their plates and had to go wav, there was also a couple of wav owners who had doblos on which are no longer allowed in dundee who forgot ,they had to move up to e7 etc,one decided to go for a private hire plate
