the report

CC

here's a quicker version.

http://216.239.59.104/search?q=cache:JG ... le.gov.uk/

When I read this report I couldn't get away from the fact every man and his dog seems to give the NTA as their email address? Its hard to determine if some of these guys are representing Carlisle or the NTA.

Maybe this bloke should have though a bit more about joining the trade before he decided to join it.

I have been doing this job now for 12 months. Because of the amount of taxis inCarlisle, through the week the job is a waste of time and diesel. Financially, I am atbreaking point, I’ve just paid my second years insurance yet haven’t paid last years. Ihave spoken to several drivers and all in the same boat – working 7 days a week to tryto make a wage, 2 of which have recently had their houses repossessed. Is working 7day weeks safe?. No obviously. Why is the haulage industry limited to 48 hourweeks?. Because they’ve realised it isn’t safe to work every hour God sends. My carhad its first council test the other week, at a cost of £43 and £6 for a copy. I had toborrow £90 off my parents for 2x tyres, which at 35 I found embarrassing. All of theabove points come down to there being far too many taxis in town. You already knowthis, so please do something about it. Thank you for your time.

Its people like this who really boil my pi$$.

I take it you don't have quality controls in Carlisle CC? This would explain every Tom, Dick and that other C*** putting on their own taxi.

Or would you rather have restricted numbers, with lots of driver's to double and triple shift you're vehicles?

Down where I stay there is no restriction on numbers, no quality controls, and no problem either. If anything there appears to be a shortage of driver's.

Why Carlisle?

Oh and let's not forget, what's in it for you?

So what's your problem?

Wouldn't you rather beef up the the quality controls to slow down entry into the trade without a numbers cap? Surely that would be the way to go before even contemplating re-restricting Carlisle? Or is there more to this than meets the eye CC?

Like I said before, what's in it for you?

I know let's make it a free issue, but make quality controls stronger, then it will be I am earning no money can't afford to pay for this cab, I know what, let's make it so we can have older vehicles, and let's put the price of fairs up......Ummm....... I wonder why nobody wants to get in my Taxi...... eusasmiles.zip

Sheffield may go down the re-restricting route as well. After delimit in 2001 the numbers went from 300 to 720 so Sheffield City Council last Wednesday decided to conduct a survey and taxi demand.
The original report by the council solicitor in 2001 had used a formula of some sorts, and reommended that a city with population size of Sheffield needed around 725 cabs. There was a review recommended then and in keeping with that and of course some prompting from the trade association, the Council agreed and even offered to pay for the survey.
