Do you think I would be stupid enough to help run a site like this?

For the record the site is owned by a sports lawyer from Manchester.

Does LUKE really exist ? Or is the post just a way of diverting from the initial topic. There is never any real debate on this site. It's just a forum for wannabee taxi owners (ie PH owners who lack the guts or aptitute to buy a plate and want degreg so they can join the club for nothing.) The B-Tech scheme is a franchise made to look like an educational course, it will do nothing to improve the trade. Some support it as a way of keeping out newcomers, to deter competition, fewer drivers mean more work for existing drivers. Councils like it because it relieves them of some of their responsibilities. But those running the B-Tech are it purly for the money, nothing wrong with making money, its the rubbish being talked to promote it that's wrong. The trade is being hoodwinked yet again.

So what's your solution, is it your wish that the Btec should be more stringent and incorporate items of legislation, English, numeracy and aptitude tests? Or do you want them abolished altogether so that anyone can obtain a license? At what level do you think quality controls should be set?

Its not very adult of you to throw a tantrum in another thread just because you didn't get the response you might have expected. If a Btec is being introduced in your licensed area then go do what the NTA GMBU and T&G advocate and consult with your council.

You can't blame us for your failings.

Regards

JD

We already have a licensing system run by the LA's The B-Tech offers nothing that the LA's don't already do. Have a B-Tech or an LA test not both. Have a B-Tech that is a real qualification, not a plug and play powerpoint presentation sold as a franchise and operated by someone with little or no educational qualifications. Anyone with the licence fee can run this B-Tech, its not EDUCATION its EXPLOITATION. You would have to be a total retard not to pass, its insulting to drivers to have to answer questions so simple. It is like a TV telephone quiz using premium rate lines, designed to generate the maximum number of participants for profit. The only people that could fail are those that cannot understand the question, whose English is poor or are illiterate, and there are Adult Ed courses to help them which the LA's already recommend when appropriate. Is that a good enough tantrum, I got the response I expected, if you talk to monkeys you get gibersh back, you just hope one day one or two will evolve. I hope there is some inteligent life that reads this site if only for their own amusement, but it is only a hope. Most people in the trade are too busy to bother with the politics, I just have to much time on my hands now that I have so many worker drones in my taxis. My finger tips are sometimes numb counting the money, why can't they print bank notes on Charmin or some other soft tissue paper.

You say you already have a licensing system run by your own LA, which LA might that be? Do they have a Btec course or are you complaining about Btecs in general. If you are a member of a trade organisation then you probably already know that in general their moto is "councils know best" and their buzz word is negotiate. Take a leaf out of Mr T and Gateshead Angels handbook and try the path of negotiation, i'm sure they will advise you of the qualities of negotion. Failing that you can sit down with councillors and show them why the Btec is a waste of money and how you can make it more challenging and befitting the status of a Taxi driver.

There is A B-Tech running in my area, its not compulsay and free to existing drivers, either funded by the LA or even given free by the Franchise operator as a loss leader. Those who have completed the course that I have spoken to feel it was a waste of time, giving the reasons I have already expressed. Over the years I have negotiated with local Councillors on many issues and can honestly say that I have always been given a fair opertunity to put my case. I have not been successful on every case (probably losing more than winning) but I was able to make my point. The main thing I have learnt is that if you go to such a meeting look and act like a business man not an unruly mob. On many occaisions I have witnessed "collegues" from the taxi trade turnig up looking like they just finished gardening or some other messey job, interupting other speakers to the point where they were warned that they would be ejected from the meeting, swearing and other moronic behaviour. My point is that we get treated the way we do because of the way we act. If you want to be taken seriously then act responsibly, the B-Tech sets the bar so low it has no value and Councillors see that a quickly as some of us do.

You remind me of a dog chasing its tail. In other words your running around in circles getting nowhere. What is it your after and if your concerned about Btecs in your area then your solution lies with the council does it not. You haven't said if you want to make them harder and relative to the taxi trade or have them abolished?

It's like pulling teeth with you, why don't explain what you want instead of faffing around getting nowhere.
