Sorry; this has probably come up so many times before but I'm going to ask: why is there so much animosity between hacks and PH's or is it just due to the licencing in my area?

Round here you need a First Class Hack licence to drive either Hack or PH and you can swap about as much as you like (get a third class licence and its a horse drawn carriage for you!)

We have four "Offices" in the Town and they all allow Hacks and PH alike; same radio rent etc.

The cars have to meet the same criteria (with the exception that PH aren't allowed a bulk head ie. no London Cabs) and have to have meters fitted and at the same rate.

So very basically you can't drive a PH unless you are licenced to drive a top plate.

I take it this is not the same all over the Country then. Incidently we have limited Hack plates unless you put a purpose built WAV on then you get a free plate for as long as it stays on that vehicle and must be returned (so far 150 regulated and now up to 168 including the freebies) and have unlimited PH (now up to about 170 but the don't re-issue no longer used plates no more realistically 100). We also don't have mini-cabs or the like - everything has to be on the meter and plated and licenced driver.

I always thought our LO was a bit weird but maybe this should be adopted in other areas as well.

I think it is because of unmet demand on a weekend when people pay large amounts and are desperate to get home and then through the week use there local ph which is the main bread and butter. This is why i think some hacks turn green. :D :D :D

This is what I'm having difficulty understanding because round there its the same! You pay the same for a PH or a Hack  Every car is compliance tested to the same standard and the meter rates and licences are the same!

Should I be reading PH are mini-cab?

Same in Warrington, the PH can have a meter if they want one and the rates are virtually the same, it's just that a certain element of hac's have a bad name and mud sticks.

The problem is that on both sides you have big mouth so and so's that wind up the rest. And sadly the drivers, in the main, are taken in.

But it will get better. As soon as the old sods die or retire, then, just maybe, things will change.
