I don't think they want to get to me, they just want to get the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

Unlike some of the brothers.

Well not many, but there are many hundreds of licensed London PH operators out there.

In fact there shouldn't be any that aren't.

Yes, and many more operators yet to register. There is not one single car that has yet been licenced and tested let alone the drivers. I think agreement has just been reached for the bi annual compliance test which will be contracted out...too many for the PCO garage which will lead to more problems of standardisation...its still a long way off but as you say..."not long now"...or are your referring to an imperial measurement? :)

Best wishes

Andy

Several points across this thread.

Addi Lee- Exterior signs! Think you will find that they are on the inside of the window. Bet that will lead to ruling that they are exempt.

Licenced PH vehicles in London! Didn't I read that the PCO had received provisional applications from 37,000 vehicles?

Watford - If the PH is taking bookings at a booth on the forecourt, then that has to be a licensed based surely! If it is a licensed base then the PH vehicles are returning to base and parking at base on private property.

As an aside it is great to see a hot thread with three well informed contributors, who can argue their case without resorting to insults and claptrap.

Dear all,
In a recent post I said that Manchester had u-turned on the policy of having an all white P.H fleet. In fact they had successfully been to court to fight for it. It transpired that they were willing to allow silver livery as well as white. I wrongly thought that this was a sop towards Airportcarz, but I have just heard that Airportcarz P.H licence has been denied again because they will not not carry the Manchester signage and remove the signage that they have on now. Presumably "Taxibus". Apologies for the misinformation.

Could they not license them in another area then Ged?

One presumably that allows the conditions they want.

Applications yes, licences no.

Booth/office if allowed by train company is fine. PH Vehicle(s) touting on show to public is a no no anywhwere.

Andy,
I am bewildered as to exactly why they want to go the P.H route.
As you know they are acting as taxis and P.H without the legal restrictions that we all face.

Well perhaps the pressure you and your colleagues are putting on them is bearing fruit.

The call for support by Watford was reported by Bob Hewlet and Nigel Marchant via the trade and Internet grapevines on the Monday and resulted in around 200 Taxis from across the UK on Tuesday, including myself at 7.30 in the morning at a motorway lay-by waiting in convoy to show their support for the Watford Lads.
Kindest Regards

Well Andrew. Seems either you were exagerating by saying 200 or the local paper miscounted when it said 50. Maybe the other 150 went to Rickmansworth Station by mistake

But bearing fruit for whose pocket? I should imagine Silverlink local Managers are under as much pressure from above as our to maximize profits at any cost, be it in the lives of public/rail worker from ignored safety alerts, trains canceled or in this case get paying hire cars out there at any cost before I lose my job. after all the Taxi trades always been easy to manipulate and they pay us to let us do it. Local council will be charging busses next over the odds for every bus stop they use...now theres a thought! "Sorry Luv, have to wait till the next stop, we cannot afford to stop at that one"

Hello Ged...its that efficient capitalist thing, making more money irrespective of the cost of human misery it may cause anyone weak enough to allow passage...the strong survive?....the 5hit always rises to te top? certainly in this game it does with enforcement regulations more in place to dig the graves of the drivers than ensure a fair living for them.

It does have bearing if the activity is taking place in an area of open public access.

There was a ruling where the judge cited the case of a prostitute soliciting in the window of a private dwelling. It seems that the "private land" issue still views illegal activity as illegal activity.

Yes Tom, I noticed that too...I counted 200 or more in the industrial slip road waiting to convoy, parked both sides, every where you looked, like plated locusts emerging from the sunrise...have you anywhere on the site for piccies...I can upload a few if you wish. I can only assume a lot were Watford licensed and perhaps some shot of early having made their statement. If 50 is accepted as an official figure I could not argue it, you could not count while circling the Station, even 50 individuals from across the UK at a few hours notice giving up the fair part of their day to show some support to oppressed colleagues I think is pretty wonderful in this trade. If you or I were on to a hiding to nothing just because there were not enough of you to make a voice and 50 strangers turned up at 7:15 in the morning to spend 3 hours supporting , you or I would be pretty dammed chuffed and our voices would start to sound a little louder and the chest swell a little wider I think.
