Increase to fares given the go ahead

Proposals to increase taxi fares in Aberdeen were finally approved yesterday.

The decision comes after more than five months of wrangling between the taxi trade and the city's licensing committee.

The rise represents a 5-6% increase across the board, which Russell McLeod, chairman of Aberdeen Taxi Group, described as a "pay rise for drivers".

Starting fares will remain at £2 but distance travelled before an increase is down from 1,100 yards to 1,000 yards.

The second and subsequent miles will remain at 20p but the distance between increases has been reduced to 200 yards from 220 yards.

Where more than four passengers are carried, the fare will be increased by 50% on the understanding that the current practice of charging a surcharge of 50p for each passenger above four is discontinued.

Debit card payments will be subject to a 10% charge.

The increases will come into effect on October 16.

Mr McLeod said he was pleased that the proposals had been finally approved.

"I am very happy with what is a common sense decision," he added.

lol I do too.

On occasions I forget to unattached my signature, I'm always grateful to anyone who points out my unintentional intentions.
