Taxi Driver Online

It appears the only time a Private Hire driver becomes a taxi driver, is when lasy journalists decide for themselves.

The Manchester Evening news has always used the word Taxi when describing private hire vehicles and drivers. It is a common failing amongst most journalists. The discrepancy has been pointed out to the Manchester Evening News on several occasions but they still insist on using the word Taxi, for both sides of the industry.

I must admit it was a good piece of detective work in finding the offender but I wonder why he wasn't insured?

I'll try and get some more info on this tonight.

The Manchester Evening News reserve the right to blur the edges of a story.
A few years ago the police, town hall and other agencies conducted tests on cars and cabs arriving at the airport. Surprise surprise when they found that cars travelling on 100 miles round trips for peanuts were full of faults with in many cases the driver being the recipient of State largesse.
When the story hit the news the following night the header was something like "Airport taxis blitzed with alarming results". They went on to catalogue the horrific defects found. And guess what...the adjacent photo was our rank at the Airport. Not one of our cabs were found to be faulty.
We requested immediate withdrawal but they would not retract. We invited the reporter to our monthly liason meeting with the police ( to give him credit he did show), he was contrite about the poor vocabulary but said that although he wrote the story it was the sub editor that headlined and chose the photo. He promised to try and inculcate within the reporters the proper terminology. But he did point out that Billboards around the town looked more immediate and catching with "taxi rapist" than "private hire driver rapist". At least he recognised our anger. He was moved shortly after.

We have the same problem in our area.
Not with the press but with the police.
Everytime we get a good raport with an inspector. He gets moved.
Just like painting the fourth bridge.
Think you have suceeded.
Then straight back to the start.
