Specialist taxi is back in town

East Grinstead based taxi firm Street Cars has presented its brand new disabled access vehicle.

The £28,000 van has three ramps, seats eight people and has a leather interior, it replaces a vehicle which was written of in an accident this June.

Company director, Amy Waterman, said: "We are the only company with a disabled vehicle in East Grinstead.

"If people do not use us, and I am not available, they have to get a guy to come from Sevenoaks.

"It has been a big issue for my customers who haven't been able to use me."

Street Cars had to finance the new car themselves, and the accident caused problems for several weeks.

She added: "We had been struggling for ages looking for a second hand one, but we ordered a brand new one."

At the end of September Street Cars received a Matthew Burrin award in praise for their efforts to help disabled people. Matthew Burrin founded the Access Group in East Grinstead, and the award recognised the important work that the company do in the area.

Maybe if Mid-Sussex council issued a few more WAV taxi plates, then this problem wouldn't arise.

But clearly Mid-Sussex don't give a flying f*** about the wheel-chair bound.
