In a nutshell - yes, but when you are forced in order to earn a living into purchasing an expensive vehicle, you should have a good return.

At the moment a passenger is going countless miles for £1, you could not get it as cheap on a bus. The L.A is taking the P**s, by not agreeing to a realistict charge and also by not acknowledging the expenditure of the driver.

It is the trade itself that has allowed this mess, if they had stood together from day one and said NO they would still all be earning good money. They did not and now one WAV does the work of two cars

Do you only have wav's as cabs there cabby, or do you have MPV's as well.

Deregulation took place about two years ago, in order to get a hackney license you have to have a WAV under three years old. The rest prior to that are saloons and MPVs, since deregulation we probably have an additional 250+ cabs on the road mostly WAVs.

The trouble with asking the council to bring us in line with the rest of the country - you have to know how many have fare and a half. Otherwise one is going to get shot down.

Are you only allowed crap LTI tx's or can you use the E7s if its the E7's you should be able to charge fare and a half, has anyone ever asked them yet

We have Tx's, E7s and so on but I have no idea if anyone has asked and I have not heard anything mentioned, but the idea is to get as much info as possible. If I can get a case together, then it makes it harder for them to turn down a request.

Whoever is the representative body could not get a reasonable increase for us this year, and quite frankly I am not impressed with the way that they lay down. My guess is that they do not do their homework.

Only other area I know about is Colchester, fare and a 1/3 for more than 4 people....good luck bud

I just divide the fare by 4 then multiply it by the number of people eg £10 fare = £2.50 per person, 5 bods = £12.50 noone ever complains.

Please remember that charging more than the councils prescribed tariff in a HC is an offence.

Gateshead allow £1 for 5 or more. Which is a total pi$$ take and should have been changed with Novembers annual rise, which also wasn't done.

Still, drivers know best

Inside the tariff zone you could catch a big cold on that one, outside the zone it depends on the wording of your tariff.

I wonder if queue jumping on a rank can be regarded as a breach of section 64 of the 1847 act.

It all depends if your mob where governed by the 1847 act, prior to the 1982 act.

If you were, and the 1982 act didn't repeal all of the 1847 act, then yes, if not then no.

If anything I would say that it facilitates queue-jumping in that it seems to be all about making sure that drivers don't prevent other drivers from taking a hire, whatever the circumstances.

I think we had the 1976 act before, not sure about any others apart from the 1982 one

Soooo which act is the one that counts for today, or does it depend on wots crossed out and wots left in.
