I want to buy my own car to run as PH but I've no idea where to start, can anyone point me in the right direction please. I'm currently renting and its costing me quite a lot of my weekly take. I know that I'll need to get the PH plates for it and a meter myself but I don't know where I would find one.
Any advise on the type of car I should go for would be much appreciated.
Would you reccommend me buying my own car or continue renting?

As for the plate, just fill in the application form from your local council.

never used them myself but some of the guys round here have. they seem happy enough. (you would hear them if they weren't )

Phone them and ask. The licence you must apply for yourself. The rest should be negotiable.

Right what you do is take it over 4 years, after 2 years on finance after paying half you can just call up the finance company and hand it back.
if you want to continue driving PH just order another just before 2 years are up get it delivered and hand the old one back.

all Skodas come with a 2 year unlimited warranty that you can increase if you want.
Who is your council???
You could get a meter from e bay or buy one for about £250 or less but they may provide you with one fitted and calibrated to your area

But will the finance company give you another loan?

It is standard hire purchase terms. You can terminate a hire purchase agreement by returning the goods once you have paid 50% of the purchase price. Which means that you are not in default and it is not recorded against your credit history. I have done this with a van I had. I even got a cheque for £777 when they sold it at auction because it went for more than the outstanding balance.

I'm not so sure if returning a car in this way isn't detrimental to getting further credit - I've certainly heard that people have had to go elsewhere for credit rather than the credit company that they've handed the car back to.

It's certainly the case that they must lose a fortune on a lot of these motors.

BTW, on a pedantic note I think you have to pay have the repayments before handing it back, and that includes interest, thus not half the purchase price as grandad claimed.
