Hi went to fuel up the day in glasgow area got bit of shock when i looked at the diesel price of £1.17 litre. This goverment is ripping the [edited by admin] out of the working class yet again. I feel we cant go on like this much longer just my opinion. But its time we were knocking on there doors very hard, they must know it is coming soon, think thats why they want more police on the streets.

I think you will find that a petition has been started, by a member of this forum, to expempt taxis and private hire vehicles from the full amount of fuel duty.

http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/licenced-taxis/

I see the words "Licensed Taxis".....no mention of "Private Hire" in that particular petition, Why is it we always seem the poor relation...no point in us PH types signing it. It would be nice to pull together as one and have a louder Voice, im sure many TAXI operators also run PH vehicles so why should we be classed as the lowest of the low. we should be recognised as Public Transport to.

This should apply to Taxis and Ph being used in any Bus lanes or future car sharing lanes even if empty and heading for a pickup....whats your take on this one?

Don't worry Mr bloodnock we're not, and never will be.

Make no mistake, should (and I think we all agree the chances are very slim, but no harm trying) a rethink over fuel duty for taxis happen, it will also happen for PH.

Take my word for it.

Bus lane access has always been top of my list, which is why their isn't a bus lane in my area I can't drive my PH in.

There was a little one once, but now it's gone.

A bit of a two-edged sword that one. It's fine by me so long as you are prepared to be treated as public transport in all matters, not just rebated fuel.

DDA springs to mind

Bear in mind that a litre of Petroleum contains about 10kWh of energy; men can produce a constant rate of about 100W, so the equivalent to an hour's use of a litre of petrol for about a quid is 100 human "slaves", at £5/hr that would mean £500. So, in a way, fuel is still very cheap ;)

And he is dead right - price instability is the first obvious tell-tale sign of depletion kicking in to curb demand.

Before 1970, USA was the world's "Swing Producer"; where output was adjusted to keep the price stable. After 1970, USA's output peaked, so they have since gone flat out, producing less year on year. Saudi Arabia then became the world's Swing Producer. Now it appears that most (if not all) of the world's spare capacity is gone, and the price will fluctuate according to the supply/demand imbalance.

If you got your way with a fuel rebate for taxis (which i think your chances are NILL) berwick taxi licensing office would be very busy re licensing all of englands private hire fleet as taxis
