47 years with a clean licence
A POPULAR taxi driver has retired after 47 years loyal service.
Fred Edwards, 79, completed his last day at Dales Taxi firm, Cabin/Station
Square, Colwyn Bay on Friday, March 14. He celebrated with his
colleagues and received a book of photographs showing his many memories.
Back in 1961 he started his own taxi service on a part time basis, whilst
working as a Night Dispatch Manager for W H Smith Wholesale
newsagents. On finishing at W H Smith’s in 1972 he went into full time
business on the taxis. Fred said: “At this time a person could travel to
Manchester or Liverpool for just £5.00 and a wedding would cost just £20.”
24 years ago Fred sold one of his taxis to Mr Alan Dale and this was the
beginning of Dales. Eighteen years ago Fred decided to work for Dales.
The well-loved taxi driver has driven for 47 years with a clean driving licence.
Vivienne Spencer, Owner of Dales Taxi said: “Everybody at Dales and
many customers wish Fred a long and happy retirement. He has never let
us down he is there at 6am everyday and is the most reliable driver that
we have ever had.”
