Lads, As for the legalities of the matter, uncertainty is in all our minds but, if DDC's legal team debated the matter with both The Inland Revenue and Department of Works and Pensions, before implementing such requests, i' surely they all concurred on the fact that this is unchallengeable.

Benefit cheats can always be reported you know.
That's a fact. Why go to all this bother when you could just report them to the DSS?

It's good to debate issues such as this because it gives people the opportunity to explore the possible failings of any action that is being contemplated.

I'm going to throw another spanner in the works by bringing into play the taxi operator scenario and leaving out the driver license condition for the time being.

We've discussed driver licenses but what about Taxi operator licenses? I forgot to enquire about the status of Taxi operator licenses but as we all know the two are completely different. Therefore, have the local taxi trade come to the same agreement in respect of taxi operator licenses as they have with taxi driver licenses.

Regards

JD

I would hope the owners of the cabs have to meet the same criteria as the drivers, in relation to disclosure.

That's an interesting one, a taxi operators license. We don't have such a thing in our borough. We have private hire operators licenses but never heard of taxi operators licenses.

Yes, up here 'operator' is used to refer to the vehicle owner/proprietor/licence holder, whether taxi or PH, while down south I believe it refers to PH booking offices rather than vehicles of any kind.

Just the thing to cause confusion.

ops renewal forms are asking for tax ref numbers,it started last may for the ops,it also warns that the council have to ptotect public funds and that they will cross check with the relevant agencys inland revenue/benfits,thats why over 50 plates were not renewed last year, there was also for the first time five boxes for your drivers name and adress but these have been ignored by most

a note appeared in yesterdays courier from dundee council warning badge holders the deadline for renewal was looming,it also mentioned only 300 of the 1300 badge holders had handed in their forms, this is the first time ive seen the council warning badge holders,in fact the last license forms you received which were three years ago warned there would be no reminder, the same applys to the plate s,which are renewed yearly, maybe this is a special year :P

Has it occured to anyone that this may all just be a monumental bluff by Dundee council? They may have no intention of denying renewals. By letting licence holders own fears prevent them from applying, they are effectively denying their own renewals. And that is legal

Anyone who submits their application form without the asked for tax and NI numbers will have their licences renewed but should expect a going over from the tax and benefit people.

Just a thought 8)

So you can't get a one year badge in Dundee but you can get a one year plate?

Can you get a three year plate?

We have a choice of one or three years for both licences.

Ours are also issued on a rolling basis; how common is it for badges and plates all to come up for renewal at the same time?

fae fife its always been the same rules in dundee for as long as i can remeber anyway, badges are renewed every three years,£115
plates every year£195,the only time someone gets a one year badge is if they are suspended and the council are keeping an eye on them
