let say you pick up a punter in a hack, off you go, along the way he spots a mate/friend he knows, hey get in i'll drop you off says the punter to the person on the side of the road, off we go

just here says the origional punter, getting out, my friend will carry on the journey

now who is responsible for the meter payment at the end of the journey, as the punter who hired you has gone and you are left with some numb nut who says the bloke who got out was just doing him a favour, thought he paid for the taxi

your thoughts

numbnut pays.
If he was unhappy with the arrangement he should have said so when his mate got out.
It wouldn't hurt to check he was agreeable though.

I would think that practically every taxi driver has found themselves in this situation in the past. The best thing to do is take a BTECH course where you will be taught good customer relations and how to resolve situations like this.

On a more serious note, if the remaining passenger refuses to pay then call the police and let them sort it out. If the passenger still refuses to pay then the police have the power of arrest.

It's time consuming I know but its probably one of the few legal options open to you.

Regards

JD

I think I would just ask loudly when the first mush gets out if the last mush is meeting the full fare, so that no-one is in any doubt.

I've just read this again and realised what was being asked.

If you are hired under such circumstances don't let the punter leave the cab until you have established who is going to pay the fare?
